Guest bigbok Posted January 6, 2010 Report Posted January 6, 2010 try getting the droppings sampled they may seem fine to you but probably not if you are not taken any notice and just doseing blind it will do them more harm listen to owen he sounds very clued up and talks alot of sense to me and i have kpet pigeons 36 years
Silverdale Lofts Posted January 6, 2010 Report Posted January 6, 2010 Droppings are fine. Just all look like this. flying over one hour droppings are fine If there was anything wrong with the birds they wouldnt be flying for over a hour and the droppings would be telling you something was wrong.
holmsidelofts Posted January 6, 2010 Report Posted January 6, 2010 If its yeast infection one of the best treatments is iodine, this tip came from one of the top uk pigeon vets and it works, no need to give antibiotics.
dwh Posted January 6, 2010 Report Posted January 6, 2010 i dont think its yeast as last year my youngsters werent coming right got droppings tested it came back abnormal amount of yeast but the birds were looking very good but not homing with winning birds 10 +min behind SAME AS US WALTER THEY CAME THAT BADLY WE STOPPED THEM TREATED THEM AND THAT DISAPPOINTED PUT THEM AWAY 4 THIS YEAR :-/

Guest IB Posted January 6, 2010 Report Posted January 6, 2010 All my birds are looking like this, can someone help me please with any advice as I am fast becoming disheartened with them like this. Have compared your pic with my birds, temps below freezing in my loft, and my birds are anything but tight-feathered sitting in that. Remember feather is also an insulator, so bird fluffing them helps trap air near body and maintain warmth. To find out if you have a problem, my 'rule of thumb' is always look for more than one symptom. Sitting fluffed-up on its own isn't a problem, but sitting fluffed-up + miserable looking / + not eating / + eyes shut / + not moving when you approach - any one or more of these and you've a problem. In my opinion your birds are only reacting normally to extreme cold weather.
Wiley Posted January 6, 2010 Report Posted January 6, 2010 I let mine out a few days ago and they exercised for about 1 hour. If you go up to them they look fine but come away and the feather go all puffy again. I have ordered some Nystatin anyway to see if this does solve my problem. if they exercised for nearly one hour there is nothing wrong with your birds, sick birds wont fly
