mobster
can peanuts be a sole diet for young birds? pros and cons?
Guest
Cons - too fatening, and they need a wide variety of food and minerals. Its almost like feeding a kid only sweets.
Guest shadow
Peanuts should never be the sole diet for young or old pigeons the are to fattening and high in protien all birds need a balanced diet or suffer health problems, the same with people. Peckedhen
Also the cost - unless you have found a cheap source!
jimmy white
peanuts are full of protein and good for the growing youngster, but it still needs a balanced diet,, it would be like you having steak for breakfast dinner and tea, but the old birds will naturally eat more protein whilst feeding young

Guest speckled
:-/ :-/ Well use "Peanuts" for a treat, yes thay are good in protien, but fattening if feed alone,as other say to much of a good thing makes ya fat. ;D ;D.but its a good way of taming the birds. Alway have them in the loft coat pocket. Speckled

THE FIFER
2 PEANUTS PER BIRD PER DAY IN AMPLE, I FEED THEM TO MINE WHEN PICKING ABOUT IN THE GARDEN AND TRY TO MAKE SURE ONE BIRD DOES'NT GET MORE THAN ITS SHARE, IF U JUST PUT A PILE OF NUTS DOWN SOME BIRDS WILL GET TOO MUCH, I FIND TOO MUCH CAN GIVE THEM SOFT DROPPINGS,
Guest slugmonkey
I have been reading on peanuts and decided to try them I have been having trouble getting birds to eat them I have started chopping them and am seeing if this wont help problem I am feeding a lot of corn 40% and about 10% wheat and peas and sunflower and about 30% milo this has been an excellent mix but maybe the peanuts will put me over the top
jimmy white
if you keep them a bit peckish , if theve never had p nuts, theyll eat them, and once they start ,theyll go for them like mad, but as said before they are fattening but the ammount can be ,regulated as you need to, ie feeding young their good, distance races , moulting etc
