Hi,

Does anyone give milk to pigeons and if show what effects/benefits does it have. I was wondering because it seems obvious since the calcium and mineral bebefits it holds but i've never heard of anyone using it??

i have used babies powdered milk in rearing yb,s [didn't use it this year as had illness in family and they had to take a backseat]   but have reared beautiful ybs on this,, couple of tablespoons to a drinker ,

also, birds returning after a hard race , have found half milk half warm water beneficial to recovery :)

I don't think its maybe as simple as just giving calcium. That's just one of the many minerals that pigeons need, and they need it in a balanced mixture, the concentration [strength] of one has a direct affect on another like links in a chain?

From memory, think its calcium and phosphorous levels that are linked and they are both linked with vitamin D level which is in turn linked to vitamin A level.

For me a proprietry pigeon mineral mixture and a pigeon multivit are simplest way of getting it right.

This might sound wild but I was recently looking for a natural coccidosis remedy and read SEVERAL places that whole milk will fight coccidia it causes the formation of mucous which traps the coccids and they are then expelled in feces

most medications act in a similiar way so I am thinking this might work ????

   any ideas

I use oyster shell I have been told they are loaded with calcium !!!

I'd be interested in the cocci information too.

My birds were diagnosed with 'a touch of cocci' earlier this year, and since then I have been looking at cocci from a far wider perspective ...

Would a new COCCI thread for your info be more appropriate?

It's not usual to look for info on cocci under 'Milk'  ;D
