pjc Posted September 20, 2009 Report Posted September 20, 2009 if you have no seed available rice would do but if you can also put some glucose in its water.
Guest Posted September 20, 2009 Report Posted September 20, 2009 All aobe ideas are absolutely fine and preference of fanciers. You can give it any type of certail including frosties which have sugar on them, this gives complex carbs and sugars, they won't take a lot of it and break it down into fine powder. If you give the bird water you can give it water with sugar in, same thing, make the water tepid because the bird is likely to refuse cold.
Guest tomo68 Posted September 20, 2009 Report Posted September 20, 2009 PJC were would i get the glucose from
pjc Posted September 20, 2009 Report Posted September 20, 2009 PJC were would i get the glucose from If you don't have gloucose, disolve some sugar in hot water and then dilute to tepid before giving the bird. Often fluids are more important than food as they suffer more from dehydration than starvation.
Guest Thunder Birds Posted September 20, 2009 Report Posted September 20, 2009 Try split peas, lentils or porridge oats? If the bird won't drink try pouring a bit down it's throat from a teaspoon
Guest IB Posted September 20, 2009 Report Posted September 20, 2009 All of the above. or barley or popcorn maize, available from supermarkets, barley cheap at 37p per 500 kg bag, maize a lot dearer at £2.50 per kilo. Glucose is also available in household honey. First add a teaspoonful of vinegar (cider vinegar, if you have it, otherwise white household) to 1/2 litre boiled water, then dissolve a tablespoon of honey, stirring well till honey is fully dissolved, top up with cold water till tepid, then pour some into a jar for bird to drink.
badgeman Posted September 20, 2009 Report Posted September 20, 2009 Thomo ,dont feed it rice ? ,when it gets wet after drinking it will swell up in the crop causing problems , soak it first in water to soften if thats all you have , bread in small pieces will help.
