If Vic, with all of  his experience, can lose two thirds of his (fancied) yb team. I am sure it can happen to anyone. These days, for some unknown reason, there are not as many work their way back as yesteryear. Chickens and chips, Yes! Pigeons with chips? NO! lol.

when it comes down to losses experience counts for nothing the guys losing birds around my way this year are good club and nrcc flyers, not just halfwits like me

A friend of mine has just been on the phone to tell me he has lost 2/3rds of his yb's so far this year, and he is a very experienced fancier with excellent stock.

Hellish.

are you sure they are not in initial stages of ybs  , this is amajor reason for losses on a large scale ,a lot of fancthiers don,t spot the signs straight away  ,basket them and wonder what sgot wrong this is the most high occurence time to get ybs ,mixing with other birds , the weather as warmed upa lot , they are stressed   if this had happened to me this would be the first thing i would look for

in my case no signs at all [20from 30 lost] they were flying around for up to 2 hrs before they went [even the local club champ turned up for a look as he said his birds were not flying at all]i think they clashed along the way as they turned up single all day and the next day as well

when your y/b are doing that much flying chriss then there health is spot on and a credit to you in your case i would think that your losses are down to HAWKS more than health as with most of the losses when pigeons come home in 1/2 after exercising like the way you say yours have then its not down to the lack of fitness or brains  ;)

you are correct there, everybody loses birds and do not believe them that say they don't lose any because we ahve a couple who say they only lose one or two but when you visit thier loft there are never many birds in it

oh they were flying that way ok i was so proud[this been my first year racing] that the local champ turned up to see what i was putting in the water and what sort of feeding i was doing,i know that this world of ours if full off guys swearing blind that their birds fly off for half a day etc etc,but my birds were getting noticed [if i had kept more, instead of losing 20  then more people would have noticed them!!!!]i think also that it must of been a sparrowhawk as the motorway coming back had a few hovering around,i must be too dumb to take the hint but i will be back next year to try again, the sad thing is that i let them go in two seperate batches in case one of the groups hit something
