guyfinross Posted July 31, 2008 Report Posted July 31, 2008 Hi all I caught the pigeon who is quite tame really. He is now in our garage and has water and all I had to give him was rabbit food as there are seeds in it. I will give him some rice in the morning. Hopefully he will feel like flying away so I will let him in the garden first thing to see how that goes. What I read on his ring was HET 1912, hope someone can help me with that so I can call the owner. Many thanks for the replies so far. Sorry to but in on your thread, Julie, I just didn't know what else to do. Julie - the new one.
invalidusername Posted July 31, 2008 Report Posted July 31, 2008 Julie (2), hope you don't mind, but as your post is going to get totally lost where it is, I'll 'quote' it on a new thread in the right place. It might get moved by a moderator later, but in the meantime, if I do it, your post might get noticed. I'll quote it in the lost & found area as a new post :-)
Julie Posted July 31, 2008 Author Report Posted July 31, 2008 I think you're right David, I am a bit hooked, I'm very fond of all birds anyway, I think some white pigeons in the yard - which is not very grand or anything, but a beautiful spot - would be very nice. I will have to look into it. Julie, you are very welcome in my thread, it has added much more interest. I'm so glad you have caught the pigeon, you will be hooked soon ;D. Julie - the old one ;D

Julie - the old one ;D Julie (1 ;-)) stay on the forum and ask about white (or, indeed any type of) pigeon. Lots of people who could point you in the right direction. You could even join a local pigeon club! Julie (2!! - guyfinross) I've reposted your message - hopefully give it more chance of being spotted :-)

Julie - the old one ;D Hi Julie (1) Hahaha! We too have horses and I've just recently got back to pigeons after along spell with out. They will certainly add a touch of colour to your yard. They will amuse you with their antics ( better than any T.V. soap ) as they are really just like us, apart from we don't have the advantage of flight. Get some colourful tumblers as they not only look good but they will entertain you in the heavens. I promise you for a little effort the rewards are well woth it. Have fun.
Julie Posted August 2, 2008 Author Report Posted August 2, 2008 Hi Freebird, thank you for that suggestion they do sound like fun. I don't know whether to congratulate you, or commiserate with you on your horse owning state!!! ;D ;D But that is an entirely different subject. What sort of accommodation do any of these non-racing type pigeons need? Do dovecotes do the job or do they need more substantial buildings, like a shed. Julie(1)
Julie Posted August 2, 2008 Author Report Posted August 2, 2008 Hi Rose, I suppose I can't make them roost where I want if I don't shut them in at night, corner of the stable a bit dodgy with one or two of our horses though, so they would have to be choosy and pick a placid one's stable. ;D ;D
ChrisMaidment08 Posted August 2, 2008 Report Posted August 2, 2008 they say pidgens round horsees helps them as birds fly in and out of stable the horse is less likly to startle doc jones swansea race horse trainer had loads round his yard as does john turner west wales show jumpers and david broome
