Speckled Jim Posted March 30, 2010 Report Posted March 30, 2010 Have recently bred my first lot of race birds which are racing now in young bird races and doing quite well, have been thinking about possible pairings for end of season, but most of my birds are breed off cocks and hens ive got from all over the place, so I suppose you would call them all crosses, should i just be breeding best to best at end of season, have read crosses dont make good breeders?
Wiley Posted March 30, 2010 Report Posted March 30, 2010 lol jim dont read they hype, how do you think strains are created, the create of the strain, gets birds from joe bloggs and steve smith ect its a load of rubbish crosses dont make good breeders, you have good and bad pigeons in breeding and theres only one way to find out and that is by breeding from them. Pair crosses to crosses will do no harm at all
gulkie Posted March 30, 2010 Report Posted March 30, 2010 a good start put best to best and the basket will tell u if it's a good pairing or not, create ur own strain ,we are all experimenting ;) .
pjc Posted March 30, 2010 Report Posted March 30, 2010 Ignore pieces of paper, breeds etc. As said above test them and then best to best but also try and balance types, size etc to build a family of the sort of bird you want.
