elliedee Posted September 6, 2009 Report Posted September 6, 2009 [face=Sans-Serif][/face]Hi all on pigeon basics. Could anyone please help me with a dvd on widowhood. I have never done this method before and would like too give it a go. I did purchase a couple on ebay but unfortunately I seem to have been ripped off they have taken my money and not sent the dvds. I dont want to risk buying from ebay again. So if someone could please loan one too me I will return it once viewed and return postage costs. Thankyou. Also I am after a sootjen cock to go with a beautiful hen I purchased last week from a line bred by Frank Shreader.
Guest Owen Posted September 6, 2009 Report Posted September 6, 2009 The best information that I know of is The Widowhood Book on Amazon. It is old but it covers everything. Mick Maitland has a good information leaflet that will get you going. Then there is the Book of Patrick brothers. My own system has elements of all of these in it. I found that I took several years to find out what to do. But now I would'nt dream of flying in any other way. I do not have to spend too much time on the cocks. And I can fly 12 cocks and beat people who send up to 60 and 70 birds to a race. The birds are always tame and easy to manage. In fact a pleasure to deal with. People have told me that I am wasting my hens. No I am not. The hens are subjected to the most rigorous of tests. They have to perform as youngsters to warrant me keeping them. They are closely related to the best cocks, through brothers fathers cousins and so on. Every year I have a surplus of hens and only the best are kept. My cocks are not allowed to breed until they have won 4 races. So I employ the Bull System to make sure that I am always breeding from birds with winning genes. Slowly but surely the quality of my birds is improving. The one delema I am struggling with right now is the selection of birds for next year. I only have 16 nest boxes but I have 22 good cocks. So obviously 6 have to go. My problem is which 6.
