Is a genuine homer or a show racer a racing pigeon in your opinion?

It's a show racer that would come in later than the homer, because it would be too busy looking good at it ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

performing and show wests are one breed

,but,bred for a differant purpose,ONE FOR  SHOW,ONE FOR PERFORMANCE !!!!!

BUT,STILL ALL WESTS !!!!

LIKE TIPPLERS,ROLLERS OR WHATEVER BREED !!!!!

LIKE RACING PIGEONS !!!!!   LONG DISTANCE,SHORT DISTANCE,SPRINT !!!!!

STILL ALL RACING PIGEONS !!!!!!!!!!!!

LIKE WESTS !!!!

PERFORMING OR SHOW BIRDS,,,,STILL ALL WESTS

,BUT ,BRED FOR DIFFERANT PURPOSE  !!!!

As there is no visual difference between performing and show wests then I agree they are still one breed.

However as there is a distinct difference between Performing Birmingham Rollers and Exhibition Birmingham Rollers they are now regarded as two seperate breeds. That is why they have their own classes at shows. This is how new breeds are developed,it is not rocket science.Anybody looking at them would be able to tell the difference.

The same applies to Flying Tipplers and Exhibition Tipplers, again they are now two distinct breeds with a common ancestor which can easily be recognised.

No doubt in years to come wests will split into two distinct breeds.

Nobody looking at racing pigeons would be able to tell the difference between different distance strains so they are still the same breed but they would be able to pick out a show racer.

Therefore there is no visual difference between strains but there is between breeds.

You can get different strains of wests and racers but different breeds of rollers and tipplers.

very interesting lads breeds within breeds :-/or different traits within the same breed.this can be seen in other animals that have been selectively bred for a use. American standardbred horses have two types trotter and pacer.with a number of common ancestors. other types of horse with different gaits.(classed as breeds) .Sizes of race horse differ, sprinter, stayer, flat racer, jumper, all have common ancestors but all developed for a specific job.Show greyhounds, racing greyhounds, different in size and running ability but classed as greyhounds. So it apeers that animals of a breed  have common ancestors but through selective breeding can become a type or breed for classification or use.and the more selective they are bred the bigger the change from the original ancestors. so are they a breed or a type ? natural selection has produced breeds over millions of years. man has developed and domesticaited  animals over a shorter time and called them breeds.what ever the roller tippler or tumbler is, it is man developed and great to  admire  and watch, :)man the greatest breed on earth :-/

On that argument they are all Rock doves modified through selection breeding to produce the many variants we have today. Similar to the wolve and all our dogs.

Try this

If say you have a whippet that is produced to show standard which changes over the years, and I have one that is for racing nothing like the show standard but runs like sh** and wins all the races, then my mate has one for working whippet that is the best worker this side of the Channel

Show whippet... cannae run worth a fu## and will never be asked to but looks great after the cosmetics have been done

Race whippet... kept lean and in top condition never seen a brush in its life could be the ugliet whippet man created but beats everything in the ring

Working whippet...kept in a kennel with its winter coat, fed when it catches something, looks as rough as a badgers butt. But nae rats, nae cats or anything else worth eating in your line of work left alive

At the end of the day they are all whippets,  I bet just though selective breeding you could any of these out of a few pair of whippets in not that many generations to a fair standard of the above types,,,,,THE SAME AS THE WESTYS YOU ARE ARGUING ABOUT :) :) :) :)

The argument being is it a show whippet, a racer whippet a workong whippet or just a whippet at the end of the day :-/ :-/ :-/ :-/ :-/

A different argument is it a pigeon, dog, cat, horse,  ;D ;D ;D

try the npa mate

The NPA is for show birds only.As you are the one who says there is such a thing as a flying WEFT then surely you know which club officially recognises them.

The NTU caters for flying tipplers

The AERC caters for performing birmingham rollers

Surely to run competions there must be a governing body.

You've confused best flyer which a west picked up. Best flyer is for the flying breeds which include show racers tumblers etc, its not that theres two types.
