    Feed before?or split

I belive its in the feeding, if you feed them to fly for an hour they will, if you feed them to fly for 40 minutes also they will , its a learning period and every team is differant, some pigeons in form will not fly at all some will not come in. But if your whole team are not keen on flying there is something wrong, I use barley the feckers fly their *expletive removed* off on it, After I split them they got 100% but need to be built up for the racing. At the moment they get 1/2 gerry plus 1/4 barley and the other 1/4 pellets, cant get them out of the sky, might not win a thing but happy as a pig in sh** with them now
  3. Ill be the good looking bloke at the door, Isnt that right Mick and Frank
  4. gladdo get yourself along to the Sarsfield Monday night, we need to talk
  5. I know this might sound silly but make sure your hen is a hen and the cock is a cock if you know what I mean, Happened me this year when pairing up locked a yearling hen in with a cock and they never took together, I had raced this "HEN" the full young bird program as a hen, I changed her mate and still had the same problem, so I threw her into the widowhood hen loft to get her out of my way and "she" drove every hen in the place mad. You never know. Kevin
  6. A young bird auction will take place in the Sarsfield R.P.C. on Monday 7th of April viewing 7pm till 8pm sale starts 8pm sharp. All proceeds from this charity auction will go to St. Catherine’s ward in Harold’s cross hospice who made Pat Holmes late wife Sylvia’s last days as comfortable as possible. This really is a great cause and the lads who have organised the sale have pulled out all the stops and have assembled one of the best draft of top quality youngsters I have ever seen. Birds from all over Ireland and the U.K. including present I.S.R.F. champ Gerry O Mara, 2 from a pair of Open winners from Derek Cummins. Cabras Mr consistent Terrance O Brien. Double winner and 2005 champion Alan Best, Kings cup winner Jimmy Cullen, Europa classic winners Gibb & Byrne, Liverpool’s Mr Hartog John Gerard, top UNC partnership Brownlee, Nee & Ward, a couple from Henry McLaughlin, John Byrne 1st INFC 2007 and many more, check out http://www.racingpigeon.ie for full sales list and they will even bid at the auction for you if you cant make it, should be a corker don’t miss.

    Scottish Visit

I hope so Mick, but I dont want to spoil him ;) Funny enough Gareth we had left my house at 4.30am and arrived at Johns house around 4pm, so after the food and the hour out the back we were only fit for the bed and i had the same drive in front of me the next day but it wasnt for the want of being asked.
  8. Some birds will build huge nests from straw or anything else you give them, but others will never build a thing even if you put the nest materials in the nest they tend to throw it around the box. The only reason i use them is if you have a pair that dont build a nest and you have a single bird nest the likley outcome will be the youngster will spray its legs, then you have a wasted nest. nest felts for me every time or cardbord bowls jmo. kevin
  9. Me and my father Just got back from Scotland and had a terrific time, just want to thank all the lads and ladies who looked after us over there and did we get looked after, it unfourtunatly was only a short visit but please god it wont be the last. First up we stopped off in Clackmannon to call in on Frank (dooman) Baille and his lovely wife carol (Carol always had a soft spot for me but dont say anything to Frank) we had lunch and seen all the doos and even got out of eating Franks sausage rolls, thanks very much pal it was great seeing you both and I hope the summer goes well and the lads get back safe and sound. Off then to Dundee and John Duthies house where we would spend the night, its unbeliveable to think that although I have met John on a couple of occaisions and got on great with him he invited what to him and his wife, the absoultly amazing Christine would have been 2 strangers to stay in their house but as soon as we arrived we were made feel right at home, fed with the best dinner I have had in years including a wee bit of haggis and shown some of the best birds I have ever handled, after breakfast another feast we headed up to see Andy Thompsons set up. Himself and Billy where hard at it cleaning out and Andy showed me around the lofts and we where then brought in for more tea and choclate biscuits. On the way back to catch the boat we dropped in to Jim Cullens house and again even though Jim had quite a bit on his plate at the time we where shown all the birds (an amazing loft of distance pigeons every bird a cracker) and his wife Jean cooked a beautiful meal for us, again we were made feel compleatly relaxed, the only trouble with the trip was it was too short but the hospitallity we were shown was second to none, everyone we met treated us like long lost freinds and looked after my dad, who hasnt been well of late like their own. Thanks again folks and god bless you. Kevin
  10. I have 3 ready as well, 1 of each :) :) :)
  11. 300 yards thank god, 5 mins up there but takes me 4 hours to get home from our club hic hic :o
  12. Good question, both times I sent to a one loft race I had the birds picked out from early on and never took much notice of their sex. If I had a choice I would send hens because they seem to be harder to lose as youngsters, young cocks tend to go down much quicker but thats just my opinion (obiously Doo would think differant, well done)and also as you said you have the egg factor, so its a tricky one. Kevin
  13. Dublin Flyer, Hi Ger, if you are sending I am going to scotland on the 9th of March I could take your entries with me if you like. (if you had them ready) Have to go over and collect all the money Frank owes me £1.35 for a coffee in Blackpool and you taught the jocks were tight ;) Kevin Barry
  14. I would agree, get them in as soon as they are ready, putting them in later will mean they will have to go out with birds who are much stonger and more chance of getting carried away. Kevin
  15. Your right Merlin, around the same area I ment south east, Looks like we are all having a bad day ;) Back to bed for me also :D Kev
