Just thought I would let you know I have now made contact with the Scottish pigeons owner. The owner of this bird and the GB Cumbria bird owner are going to share a courier, so both my little foster pigeons will be going home together tomorrow ( At least I will be at work and won't have to watch them go). Thank you everyone for your help, kindness and advice over the last few days. It was much appreciated

It's no hassle....they are lovely birds.
  3. That is truly horrendous... there must surely be some very sad little people out there in the world. Knowing absolutely nothing about pigeons... I don't suppose there could be a humane explanation for this.. like the bird being tangled in something and someone having to cut the feathers to free it? I'm probably being stupid, but I cannot imagine anyone deliberately wanting to harm such a lovely looking bird...not to mention the fact that I cannot think of anything a pigeon could do to incite a persons wrath? I suppose I am just looking for the reasonable...because the other alternative is so awful.

Why have so many Northern/Scottish birds become lost recently? I keep seeing the SU code number come up on the forum. I keep popping into this forum just in case the owner of a Scottish bird I'm looking after uses it (and to pick up tips on how to take care of it properly until it's reunited with it's owner). I won't be able to contact the Scottish secretary fellow for the owners telephone number, or other contact method until Tuesday, although I am now just waiting now for the owner of a GB bird (who also came to stay last week, but had a telephone number on it's wing) to send a courier some time this week. Would the courier coming for the GB (Cumbria) bird take the Scottish bird with it too if I ask ? As Cumbria is much nearer to Scotland, than North Wales where I am. It would make sense really I would have thought, but perhaps this is not allowed? It seems a pity and a lot of unnecessary expense to have to send two separate couriers when the two owners could share a courier? Can I give these pigeons some peanuts, I keep seeing posts here mentioning peanuts, would ordinary wild bird peanuts do? They certainly appear to like wild bird food judging by the amount they are wolfing down. My only real criticism regarding these birds is... that they seem to be a little bit daft.... they pooh in their water bowl and tip their seed up all over the floor of the cat cage they presently reside in Any tips anyone on how to prevent this.. bearing in mind I am only a babysitter and do not have to hand any super dooper specialised equipment
  6. I'm in the Snowdonia National Park, close to Porthmadog. These birds by the way, although grumpy, are very beautiful; totally unlike your run of the mill scruffy old pigeons one sees often in town centres etc. I can now understand why pigeon fanciers are so keen.
  7. Hello Everyone. I am babysitting & feeding/watering two stray racing pigeons (they both have little red rubber bands on their feet) according to your site this means they are racers?? (Reported both as strays through relevant societies on Tuesday, but they are rather slow in contacting me). Anyway they decided to roost on my bathroom window sill in North Wales 5 days ago. (left them alone until day 3, or 4 in the hope that in the meantime they would recover and then fly home, but they didn't). They are now in my spare bedroom in a cat cage ( one of my cats almost caught one of them, so had to do something; trying to keep the cats out of there too is a nightmare, they can smell them and have been constantly sitting outside the bedroom door). Not only that, the pigeons are not terribly grateful, they keep growling at me every time I give them food and water!!! Talk about metaphorically biting the hand that feeds you Managed to trace the owner of the GB 80 D3 1211 (Red Checker) bird via information on this site; re: looking for telephone number printed on birds wing (I do think the Racing Pigeon Society should mention this via their reporting procedures, but don't, perhaps one of you keen pigeon people could mention this to them sometime?) and hopefully the GB bird will be winging (metaphor again ) its way home quite soon. No luck with the Scottish bird SU 08 A 5487 as it has no telephone number on its wings, or tail. How long can one keep a Scottish pigeon in a smallish cage, without the bird becoming poorly? What should I do if no-one contacts me?
