  7. and my puppy!
  8. hope you like pics of my woe tumblers enjoying the sunshine 8)
  9. Andrew this really helps, it is exactly what I needed to know, I wanted to know how they are organised, so when you say club, I presume you mean a breed club? or a number of breed clubs? who organises the Nottingham show? and do you need to be a member of that club/clubs to enter? or to go? (see Im in the dark!!) (my 3 birds are in no way show quality, but I would like to see birds that are, and one day breed some birds that could be shown) thank you again Andrew this is really helpful
  10. I think you are absolutely right, I see no need for the negative one at all, If I think that someone has gone out of the way to offer good advice I always give a + so I think that I would like that part to stay Anonymous, but if there was something that I didnt like and I couldnt overlook it, a pm is the way to deal with it, a - seems underhanded to me, and someone could give it to you without thought, when it must be actually quite hurtful Well we dont think any less of you doorstalker, 100% or not!!! and I hope that the webmaster takes away the nagative and just leaves the positive so that it works by building up positives from other members!! ??)
  11. Oh I would love a young pair of owls Graeme, but my loft is really small, and I have just offered to take in a pair of indian fans that a (nasty) man was going to kill at the end of september, so until I get my loft extended I dont want to overcrowd the birds, Im really dissapointed! but can I get in touch when I have my bigger loft? they are so pretty!! ??)
  12. Pecked hen so far I only have one box and they only use it when nesting, the rest of the time they are on the pearches, they do like the ones I have put at the front along the mesh, from my kitchen window I can see all three of my birds looking out onto the garden, and in the box I have saw dust down which keeps the mess dry and it is easy to just dustpan and bruch it all up and put fresh down, but you will have to do what suits you, I plan to have a bigger loft next year and I may change my set up then, but the birds are happy so I cant complain.
  13. thank you Greame for the info you have given me, I enjoyed the websites too, Samantha
  14. Im sure they do sense these things carter, maybe thats the reason my bird didnt come home last week! should I run for the hills?!!
  15. I quite like the german shield owls, do you allow them to fly out? many breeders of fancy pigeons I have met never let them out, also why would being short in the beak make them unable to raise there own young well? So am I right in thinking that oriental frill is the breed and sattinete and blondette is the colour or marking? ( will look at the links but I think I already have them bookmarked in my browser, from a while ago) sorry bout all the questions but I think fancy pigeons are fascinating thanks Graeme
  16. henpecked, my v pearches are a wooden block with plastic V part that slides into the fitting on the wall, so that you can slide them off to clean them I think they cost me £1 each, I think the guy at the loft supplies makes them, if you cant get hold of any at this cheap let me know, cause I think they are perfect for the job.
  17. Carter bearing in mind that I am not trying to train my fancy pigeons to race, how do you suggest I go about it from here, I am letting them out everyday late afternoon, they 9 times out of 10 spend 10 mins on the loft roof then as soon as I shake the food tin come back in, or if I dont shake it soon enough, just come in anyway. Should I be releasing them away from home or forcing them up off the roof to fly? thanks
  18. thanks for the reply you have some stunning birds, I will be at the Nottingham show next year, thats for sure!! is the first photogragh oriental frills again?
  19. Belive it or not I took the wires out of a skip that someone had thrown away!! (the skip belonged to a pigeon racer and he said it was ok) but I since found they are available in pigeon supplies quite cheap anyway, I cut a hole in my wire mesh and threaded 4 of the trap wires onto a longer wire then tied the long wire to the mesh, with the 4 wires hanging down just longer on the inside than the square hole, so they can get in easily but not out. Ive got a few spare I could send you, send me your address in a p message, they are a bit tatty though, you also have to space each one out with a tiny ring spacer so they swing freely, I was really proud of it! I trained them by just standing them in the landing board( that is hindged to go down when they arnt out, so cats dont go in) gently holding them and pushed the heads through, once they could see no wires they are happly to fly through, then I always shook the food tin and fed them every time they went through, so they would associate going through with food, the yb picked it up really fast but my older bird, I put her on really hungry then put her food just inside, she was walking back and forth but darent go through, so I lifted up 3 of the 4 wires then next time 2 then 1 until she got used to it. I have photos of some of these traps but i dont know how to add a pic to my post!
  20. I bought my first 2 birds from a guy who shows them they were adult birds, he had never let any of his birds out and told me I would probably loose them if I ever let them out. I think if you have wings its a crying shame not to fly! and I was willing to take the chance,I did loose one, through my own impatience and inexperience, after he didnt come back, snowy offered me the best bit of advice yet, he said sounds like you are over feeding! I was, big style, since then they have been like different birds, they actually seem pleased to see me! they are like putty in my hands, I am letting them all out and then putting food in the loft and they come in straight away, even my remaining adult is useing the trap now! However yesterday I got a bit confident, as I wanted them to have a little longer out, so I put them out not quite as hungry, and they all flew off!!!! after 2 hours I was beside myself with worry, but I had an appointment so I had to go out, I got in at about 5 oclock and raced to the loft to find them all sleeping after a big day out!! ;D ;D ;D thank you for all your help I am over the moon with the progress I have made this last week ;D
  21. are these your birds? I love satinettes I have quite a few pics of them on my pc, even though Im not as fond of short faced birds there is something very pretty about them? do you breed them? where do they come from? thanks Glassfeather
  22. Hi hyacinth, my older dog is a ruby cavalier spaniel, who takes any opportunity to get in the loft, she came out this morning with her ears covered in feathers she had picked up from the loft floor it was quite a picture, she is less interested in the birds now that the novelty has worn off, I just hope when my whippet grows up her instinct doesnt take over! Sorry for the girly talk guys!!
  23. doorstalker Im struggleing to understand the draft thing! you said Pecked hen. Re the spaces, I would fill them in as draughts are not the same as controlled ventilation. Birds sitting being exposed to draughts could end up with illness. I had 3 wild fantails roost everynight for 18months on the horizontal part of my fallpipe on the back of my house, in snow storms they refused to move into the trees only a few meters away, how could a draft make the bird ill, when you say sitting do you mean sitting on eggs? cause the front of my loft is wire mesh, and when the wind is blowing in that direction it gets breezy in there, but not as bad as the back of my house, again please excuse my ignorance, its all still new to me, thanks Terry
  24. thank you I will
  25. I would like to go to a show, are they held at a particular time of year? I jointed the northern counties flying tippler and tumbler society, but I have heard nothing from them they dont have a website, I imagine that they have an annual show, but all I have is one of those fabric badges your mum used to sew onto your swimsuit! If you know of any fancy pigeon shows in my part of the world I would be grateful if you could let me know about them, thank you beautyhomer for your reply.
