In Egg! (Newbie) (1/8)

  1. I just had the same sort of thing happen to me about 2 weeks a go. Young bird fell down the chimney, I took a treble fishing hook, bent the bards down with pliers, dulled the ends and went jigging down the chimney. Took all five min. and the bird was no worse for wear. hope you get it out
  2. He loaded the gun, he aimed it and he pulled the trigger, he's a murderer. He should be deal with appropriately
  3. I have tried a couple of different programs and have found Hawkeye to be the best hands down. The support group can be kinda slow but I have emailed them directly and receive nothing but a prompt and curtious reply. It's money well spent in my opinion Ron

I'll keep that in mind...so many variables lol

Other than the flecks it looks like a ringer for mine, although the feathers on yours are in much better shape than mine. I have a blue bar that I'm sure is a hen I'll put them together and see what I get. I kinda hope he is barless, I've never had one. Thanks for help guys, I will likely require it again :B Ron

Shawn You didn't confuse me too much lol I'm just starting to get a grasp on this genetic thing, and appreciate all the help I can get. It dosn't show up that well in the pic but there is what appears to be bars there, they are faded and kind of a dirty colour. You can see it better in real life. I had thought the bird was an ash red spread at first, then I started to do more reading and because of all the flecks I changed my mind and thought it could be an almond. Like I said before I still don't know what I'm looking at all the time but I'm getting there...slowly :B

Here is a pic of one of my rollers. I'm not sure what it is I'm thinking there is more than one thing going on. Is it an almond? You will have to forgive the poor feather condition, I got these rollers from a guy who had them in less that ideal conditions Ron

I have some rollers of different colors, reds, blues, spreads...I have one that I don't know what it is, I'll take a pic of it later and post it perhaps you could help me identify it. Ron

Thanks. I think I'm finally getting the hang of this genetics stuff Now I just to learn to recognise what I'm seeing in real life. It looks good on paper, but could I tell the difference between a dominant opal or a resesive opal in real life? Not sure :-/ Ron

Thanks beautyhomer Sorry for not replying, we had a snow storm go through the other day and it knocked out our internet. Got back online today. I have another one for you if you don't mind. A siver check hen and an ashred cock carrying blue . This mating would produce some ashred cocks carrying the dilute gene, some blue cocks carrying the dilute gene. Some ashred hens and some blue hens...right? Ron

Hi I'm starting to get more interested in the color genetics latley. I'm not sure if I'm understanding it yet but if you crossed an ash red cock with a grizzle hen, would you get 1/2 of the young ash red and the other half ashred grizzle? Or am I compleatly up my a$$ ? Ron

    Pigeon Radio

Anyone here listen to Pigeon Radio? http://www.pigeonradio.com/pr/ I listened to it for the first time tonight, I listened to the Chris Peeman interveiw, very interesting. Linda Joneli from Red Rose Lofts is the current one right now. I will listen to tomorrow, it should be very interesting as well. Ron
  13. I had the same trouble one time. There were 3 birds that just refused to come in, one even stayed out at night, I never paid any attention to them. I stayed in the loft while the other birds ate, then took the food away after 15 min. and left the 3 outside. In the morning 2 would always be in but the one would stay out side. I think it was on the fourth day the 3 problem birds were the first ones in. I know it sounds mean but if they won't come in, they aint hungry enough. Ron
  14. The only way to keep the water from freezing is to do what Hyacinth has suggested. If you can't find a coffee cup heater, you make a box with a lite fixture installed in it. Install a low wattage bulb and your set. I have used both ways and have had the water freeze a bit in the upper part of the waterer but the lower part was still unfrozen, this was in -45 c weather. You could make a shroud around the whole thing to hold the heat in, that would keep it from ever freezing. I also keep a close eye on it when the weather warms up as it will make the water warm, perfect conditions for growing bacteria in. Hope this helps Ron
  15. I'll let you know how it goes Carol. The thing that has people scared (I think) is the filter grade stuff, the kind used in pool filters and the like, apperantly breathing it in will ruin your lungs in short order. The food grade stuff, is suposed ot be a lot safer and is the kind used for feeding to cattle and controling insects. We use it at work for insect control. I work in a food prossessing plant and food safty is very important, that's why we us DE. Common sense should always be used when working with any dust, wear a mask! Another thing that seems to turn people off is the fact that DE causes microsopic cuts in insects, leading people to think that if it cuts bugs then it must be able to cut the gut. just my thoughts Ron
