In Egg! (Newbie) (1/8)

  1. Just to update everyone on the white pigeon: After spending the night in my roof gutter, it heartily fed itself next day, but resisted to be caught. Later that day, it flew off and has not returned since. I can only think that it came to wish me Happy Birthday, since it was my birthday yesterday, and now that the big day is over, it has possibly gone home, or simply chosen freedom. Whichever way it was, it was a half-century birthday present that I won't forget. My husband says that pigeons are very clever birds.
  2. Thanks for all the advice. It is currently sleeping in the gutter of my roof. It didn't go into the greenhouse or come down for more food after sunset. At least it isn't so cold tonight. It is not snowing or raining, so hopefully it'll be OK. I put out a bowl of water, rather than a shallow tray and there's plenty of wild bird food and peanuts for it. Tomorrow, I'll try the box-trap with food in it as suggested in the link someone sent.
  3. Sorry I haven't been able to see the ring number. I thought it had disappeared, annoyed at me trying to catch it, but it just went on the roof of our 2-storey house, above the food. I have a hut, but it is full of junk, so I left the greenhouse door open with peanuts on the ground. There are plenty of nice perches in there and a dry bit of carpet. It is getting dark now, so maybe if it is still here tomorrow, I'll be able to try more tactics to catch it.
  4. Thanks for the advice. I still haven't been able to catch it, but I put a box outside with some food in it to try to entice it into the box. I think it may be a 4 and a 9 on the ring, rather than a 4 and an 8. Otherwise no more information.
  5. White pigeon found in my garden today. It won't let me see its ring, but it has a yellow ring on its right leg and none on the left leg. I could only make out two numbers; 4 and 8. Seems quite well fed and is totally white and semi-tame (it won't let me pick it up). It is eating the wild bird food and peanuts. It seems to belong to someone. I'm in Acocks Green, birmingham and not a pigeon fancier. I may try to catch it later, my husband's a vet, so he might catch it. If it is yours let me know and then come and get it.
