The trouble with antifreeze or other similar methods is that dogs also love the taste of it and within 24 your dog will have died a very slow painful death. Set a decent trap line and bait boxes, that will keep on top of rats and your dogs safe.

I`m tempted to say that the problem is now solved, touch wood. No signs of ratty since and the birds are settled, got my first egg this week so with a bit of luck I will have a few more in the near future.

He could have got into the day section through the weld mesh and had tried to drag the carcass back but obviously could not. The head and neck had gone together with the crop down to the top of the breast. I thought I had removed all the rats from the area with regular poisoning but this one could have come from a bit further away. Anyway it dead now, and I will reset the trap and leave it set going forward.

Will rats take pigeon? I found a dead bird head removed in the loft this afternoon, so I put a fen trap down outside the loft with the dead bird along side. Within a few hours I had caught one of the biggest rats I have seen in years. Was he the killer though or just taking a chance? Any help would be appreciated.

We have a Border dog. As yet unused but KC reg and a handsome game little dog. But Gloucestershire not Liverpool.

Its not a shed but a large double garage, as vermin proof as anything can be. As I said it has been set up for birds in the past and is very clean.

Well the house I live in has had the garage kitted out for pigeon, perches houses and boxes as a while ago the owner kept a few birds. Then a few weeks a go a racer landed and stayed a few days eating the chicken food and it was a real character who would greet me every time I went to the garage. So I have lots of room and would like to have a few birds around the place. They do not need to be anything special, as I am just starting out and want to learn the ropes.
