  1. I am Debbie! Started the day at 3am and finished at 8pm. Gonna enjoy Christmas day, have a few glasses of vino while cooking the turkey, recover on Boxing day, do a spot of visiting, then back to work Saturday. Mike didnt get his wish to be working Christmas Day, so he WILL be peeling spuds after all. First time in 36 years Have a good one everyone and all the best for next year. Julia
  2. And.....Thank you Bob. Yes its hard work sometimes but when it all comes together its worth every smile we recieve upon delivery. Mikes done over 10,000 miles in less than a month but if we didnt enjoy it, we wouldnt be doing it. Julia
  3. Thank you for that Cloudview. Its really nice of you to say how you view our side. I joined this site, as if we were to be couriering pigeons, I wanted to learn a bit more about them, their needs and the needs of the owners. If you had 5 or 10 other deliveries en route, then it wouldnt have been £2 an hour. This is why we try and coordinate days and delivery areas. It would be impossible to get birds from Bristol and take it to Glasgow, on the £25 we charge for carrying 5 birds. However, if we can do other collections and deliveries (either sameday or next day, Livestock first, standing items second) then we can make it work. Julia
  4. A lot of valid points there, which is why i broached the subject to get just this kind of input. Ideally, i'd love to say yes to every job but in reality thats not possible for any number of reasons. Traffic, weather, breakdowns etc. We cant cover North, South, East and West all in one day. We are expanding but at the moment we are operating on a schedule of areas and days of the week we cover them. This seems to be working as the customers we have had so far dont seem to mind waiting a day or two and it allows for other collections/deliveries to take place in the same vicinity as well as the customer being able to plan ahead, knowing on which day, where we are going to be. Its a same day or early next day with us, or not at all. The welfare of the live goods we carry is always the most important thing to consider for every job. I suppose with us not just being pigeon carriers as such, we have no problems with half loads and returning empty but if i couldnt do a job to the utmost of my ability, i would definately be honest and say so. We deliver more or less 24/7. If the customer wants a 2am delivery, thats what he will get. The only problem i see with a shuttle network is that at the moment we pick up live goods and they stay with us until delivery. We treat them like we would one of our own. The idea being , that we take on your role of driving to collect the birds (as you would) looking after them in transit (as you would) and arriving safe, well and not stresed at the home address (as you intended) It would take a lot of trust on the couriers behalf to hand over live goods to another courier and expect as good a service as we aim to provide. If at the end drop off point the fancier wasnt happy with the birds, who gets the blame? The first, second or even third courier that the birds have been passed through? I've heard there is a fair amount of pigeon couriering to do during the coming season. I hope to be a part of it, of course but i dont, and wouldnt, begrudge another courier taking on work we couldnt do and hope that they would feel the same about us. Julia
  5. As a newbie Courier on here, i've been reading the posts on couriers, good and bad. I've already explained (when i introduced myself) that we got into the pigeon side by accident due to the next door neighbour having racing pigeons himself. We started off as an Aquatics related Courier service but only this week have carried fish, reptiles, snakes, pigeons, mackaws, as well as the usual glass tanks and equipment. Someone mentioned how random was that lol and i did suggest we change our name to Noahs Ark On Wheels after our local vet asked us if we would consider helping her out with a few things! We are animal lovers anyway and make sure any live goods are comfortable, warm, watered, on dry bedding and delivered as soon as is humanly possible (M25 rush hour springs to mind again :-/) So, a question for all you lovely people. What do YOU want, would like, or expect, from a courier service? Julia

  7. We have a LWB Movano which is invisible on the severn bridge, so no tolls paid by us I went across 2 days ago and it would have been £10.60 That means customers in Wales get the same prices as the rest of the country, otherwise the toll charges have to get added in somewhere along the line. I agree, the M25 is a great big car park at times. The best drive I've had around it was in the middle of the night! Julia
  8. No Problem Telephone number is 01823 322 538 mobile 07716 032 470 email jmcouriers@sky.com
  9. Just like to add that we are working throughout the Christmas period. Mikes desperate to get out of peeling the spuds for Christmas dinner ;D Julia
  10. Hi Everyone Just letting everyone know that our next twice monthly Scotland run will be on the 8th Jan, returning South on the 9th. If anyones got any pigeons needing collection or delivery, we would be pleased to help. Other UK areas covered throughout the rest of the month. £25 for up to 5 birds. Aluminium or wicker baskets available for transportation. Julia
  11. Ooppps this is mike just seeing what julia has been up to and i posted without looking at the date
  12. where abouts has it to go to
  13. If its helpful to the Fancier, gets the birds back quicker and we trust the other Courier to relay the pigeon/s as we would, then I havent got a problem with that idea at all. Its all down to what the customer wants and we are happy to oblige in most circumstances. Julia
  14. Yes you are right.........and i was wrong. Sorry too many late nights and early mornings. I am so used to typing + VAT in most quotations. We have the room to carry more than 5 pigeons, so if theres 20 - 30 going to the same address the pricing structure would be £25 including the VAT (of £3.26) for delivery of 5 birds to the same address. If there are more than 5 pigeons, then each extra bird would cost £5.00 including VAT (of 65 pence) Julia
  15. Hi Thats £25.00 including the VAT, which means we are delivering up to 5 birds to the same address for £21.74. I added the VAT @ 15% onto that (which is £3.26) which makes it £25.00 inclusive. Hope that helps Julia
  16. Hi The price would be £25 + VAT for any birds going to the same address. Doesnt matter if its 2 birds or or 6, as long as it fits in with our delivery schedule. If we collect any pigeons that may need holding for a few days before being delivered, the neighbour has said he has a spare loft that we can use. Hope that helps julia
  17. We are based in Taunton, Somerset. Cover all mainland UK. Do regular Scotland runs on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month. I've got 6 cats, 5 dogs, 8 kids and 5 grandchildren and live next door to a pigeon fancier who kept on at me to post about our services........so here I am. Have I forgotten anything? if I have, I'm happy to answer any other questions but i hope i've covered most things on our website found in my signature. Julia
  18. Thanks Nice ride. Is that yours in the avatar? Mikes car mad. Not so much Lewis Hamilton as Stirling Moss at his age lol We went through a Renault 21 Turbo stage, where it was modded to the hilt. Took that to Trax, Santa Pod etc, then he went on to a Seat leon Cupra R (nudged gently by my good self) and now he's looking at an Audi (think its the R8) only 450 bhp. Pigeons would get delivered quick but probably wouldnt have any feathers left by the time thhe got there and the delivery charge would cost a fortune Julia
  19. Thankyou for the welcome. Living next door to a pigeon fancier has its frantic moments........especially during racing season when i have 6 cats :X Luckily, he's ok with cats and i do my best to keep them in. You get to know when the birds are back and we are neighbours at the end of the day so its a compromise. Its a case of if you cant beat em join em lol. I get just as excited when the birds come back as he does! He was the one who suggested the lost and found pigeon service. I didnt even know pigeons got lost :B No, i'm not blonde but it does prove you can learn something new at the age of 43 If my messages are all over the place, please bear with me. it might take me a while to get used to the site. Julia
  20. What have you got against Couriers? Actually, dont answer that!. Thats the reason we set up our own. Too many horror stories of live goods getting squashed at the bottom of the pile, arriving DOA after getting left in the warehouse, or people getting fleeced in the pocket We need to make a living but not at the expense of ripping people off. See.......there ARE some nice Couriers out there Be gentle with me people...........I dont like sharp teeth :X Julia
  21. Hi everyone, Just a quick introduction..... Our next door neighbour is a pigeon fancier and was concerned with the collapse of Amtrak. We have our own Courier Business and he asked if we could carry lost and found pigeons, or studs. We have a DEFRA type 2 licence to transport live goods and said we would be happy to oblige. We travel all over mainland UK, inc Scotland, so if your ever in need of safe, stress free pigeon transport, take a look at our website and get in touch. Prices are £25 per box, inc VAT with a discount on 2nd and subsequent boxes to the same address. We would be happy to help. Mike & Julia
