  1. Great information. Thanks all. I had posted this Q on another form that's turned up some information you might like to see http://www.pigeon-chat.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=16339 Back to the subject of doisposing of pigeons that have passed on: The reason I ask if the ring is usualy removed from dead birds is that I'd like to know if there was a pigeon loft in my house. If the rings are removed then this bird probably just met it's maker at the paws of a cat.. or the like. If not than my little patch of garden (now under my cucumbers) could be a pegeon grave yard.
  2. Ah well... I can dream eh?
  3. Once again .. thanks to all for the fab info. REDFOXKRAUTHS : So... what would a mint ring like this be worth? Please excuse my lack of knowledge. My only real experience with pigeons is wiping the evidence of their visits from my car. Q: If a person keeping pigeons has a bird die in them do they usually remove the ring before disposing of the body or is it usually left on?
  4. I dont know if it will help any but here are some images.
  5. Thanks for the info. I've had a search for the National Union of Racing Pigeons but have turned nothing up. The "BS" bit is the first two letters before the corrosion starts. At the end of the crroded part are the numbers 53 or possibly 55, it's very worn and dificult to tell. The ring is Aliminium with a knurled border. I uneartheed the ring still around the leg bone but there we're no other bones nearby. It was quite an endering find, hence my (probably overly optimistic) desire to at least try to trace the bird.
  6. Thanks Rose.. thats a start
  7. Hi I've uncovered a partialy corroded ring (including pigeon leg bone) from my garden. I can make out NURP 21 BS but the rest is corroded and missing. Can anone tell me what the means? Regards Steve
