Iv got a young pair on a single squab.. When they were on the egg, both were attentive. Now the cock is getting rough and driving the hen off the squab. Iv already witnessed him standing all over the baby. Does the chick even stand a chance with such a dad? Or will he be better once the chick starts calling for food? Iv separated them for now, but this cantle the answer

I've been told they don't tend to be very good parents and the cocks don't mature until around 3 years? Can anyone talk from experience?
-
Yeh, just got a pair recently
-
I'm just treating them like my other birds, even in the settling stage they seem to have different personality than what I'm used to

Hi all.. Just wondering what special requirements this breed of pigeon needs to perform best? I believe alot of people give up on this breed due to their demanding temperament. Do they breed well? I have seen pictures of their housing (mainly from abroad) and their enclosures seemed cramped. Is this specific to dewlaps? Any info would be much appreciated, seems quite thin on the ground online.

Good thinking.. Didn't really cross my mind.. So you don't think I should persist with the way it is now? He's familiar with the enclosure hesun now.. Was settled into there and raised 2 clutches there.. -

More of the same today.. He's a little more relaxed.. Doesn't appear to care less if the hen was there or not though -
Splitting A Pair To New Partner

Thanks for the reply.. Does it matter if he can see his old loft? Not nice seeing him pacing up and down -
Hi all, iv just separated a pair and put the cock with my chosen quarantined new hen. He was all flirty with other hens when in the other loft. Now he's just agitated and trying to get out back to his old mate, makes me feel sorry for him! When will this settle down? I dont want to keep him confined to the breeding cages, but I'm worried he will just get more worked up in the aviary. The hen doesn't know what's hit her, hardly romantic when your new partner keeps going on about his ex. It is early days, just need to reassurance and tips if anyone has any input.. Thanks, Lee

Hi all, haven't been on for a while.. read a couple of articles and wondered whether this is an exstinct breed?
-
Mine arnt used to peanuts, don't think they know what their missing yet.. Started using redband, they have definitely responded well to it
-
Ahh.. thanks
-
Their definitely struggling.. must be hard for them finding a window of decent hunting weather.. Pushes them to go for riskier attacks
-
Thanks john, I'll definitely give that a go

So whites can be a sign of inbreeding depression in certain strains? -

White Homing Pigeon Strains?

Thanks andy.. I have just got a young white hen and would love to know what her breeding is.. Unfortunately this isn't possible, Can only guess.. Think she was used for dove release.. What strikes me is that her eye and nose ceres are quite underdeveloped.. Wondered if this was a family trait or just because shes young -
Is there any physical features or characteristics that can help to identify the common white homer strains from one another? For example is there anything to be able to tell a rapido busschaerts to a logan bird? (large, small nose or eye ceres etc) Or is it impossible without doing a dna test? haha

To be totally honest.. I dont race my birds and they trap well.. I learnt the hard way about overfeeding.. Just always open to new strings of the pigeon keeping bow..
