  1. many thanks guys for the further advice - like i said we did follow the advice and took the food away after 48hrs. but he stayed around for 4 days after that with no food being left and my dad gave in. might try taking him to mine - know knows the next time im on here it would be for advice on how to train dave propely and might catch you in a 'race' if thats what they are called.
  2. Good morning all, I have joined this forum hoping to get some help and advice if possible. we dont have any birds but thought you guys might be able to throw some suggestions on what the best way to handle this is, also thinking that admin might move this as its probably in the wrong topic area ( sorry admin for the aditional work) right - where do i begin - about 4 weeks ago a tagged bird visited my dad's house. we did the normal 48 hours food and water then stop as advised by all the websites.the RSPCA did a check on the tag and said that the bird was from darby way. 4 days after the water and food was removed the bird was still there, quite happy perched on the conservatory roof, with the occasional tap on the door or window . my dad felt guilty, so placed the water and food back seen as he was hanging around ( not the best move) 4 weeks later, Dave as he is now know is still there. we managed to track down the owner who said that dave was his bird but he was a 2011 bird and has been AWOL for years. he did not seem that bothered if im honest - which is fine. BUT my mum is starting to lose patience with dave and the 'presents' he leaves for her on her washing and conservatory. so ................................ what do we do now?? ive been told that as Dave clearly does not do the whole homing thing that his neck will just be rung. this is not something i feel is fair for dave as, dont tell him, ive grown kinda fond of him. i live approx 80 miles away from my dad's - if i was to try and bring him down here - would he go back to my dads house (or not seem as this is what caused this whole dilemma) - or id like to think that there is a retirement estate for the birds. over to you guys.......
