Ticking all the boxes it appears, one could say etc. But, I actually saw it on another site as such some where. Now, oh for my emotions here, as it would have place a different feel with my message I suspect.I have asked Karl for permission before in regards posting from his web Site, and he stated Anything that may be of use to fellow fanciers I am welcomed to!

Enjoy.

Must have different birds to me etc maybe, as my birds just love them, but then I do tend to clean them with water on a regular type basis.Have tried various types of licks and rock salt but birds would not look at them , they only gathered dust until I threw them out, assume birds are supposed to pick at them as they don't have the type tongue made for licking like farm animals ?

Rota Virus (Young bird sickness) is rampant in Australia, the rack em and stack em flyers get the virus before even training their birds, they keep hundreds of birds and they soon catch the virus. I believe it is because the birds get stressed, fighting for perch space, food etc and are susceptible to any disease going, they then train them too early after the virus and wreck the season for the rest of us.They then repeat this every year and even breed more youngsters to make up for the ones that die.
Next year I intend to borrow a couple of sick birds and mix them with mine long before the racing season starts, hopefully they will be ok to race after about 3 months, otherwise I will be forced to give up racing and just keep a few in the garden.
Cheers Oz
I call them chook farmers down my Oz. Certainly some real horror stories, for some with the Rota virus issue here but not all either etc I suggest. The droppings in the water trick or infected birds, does work & so worth considering from my perspective till a vaccine becomes available type of thing "if ever". Whole affair unfortunately has turned into a total debacle sadly, but one must push on & just do the best we can with our predicament as such. Cheers
Enjoy.

My HP desktop - it's ancient
It's eight years old now (but has had an upgrade...!)
Or my OH's Toshiba laptop (that's had a downgrade since he dropped it after only a few weeks and broke the hard drive !!)
Lucky you
desktop 8 years old. Oh !!!!! to be so lucky, mine's that old it's turning grey
& when I turn it on etc I have time to go & cook a roast, before it fires up for me I'm afraid.
Enjoy.

I have four pair of old birds in my young bird section which were vaccinated around December time,I now have some young birds to wean into this section, question is do I vaccinate them before I put them in or leave them for the time being until I have the required amount in that section and then vaccinate all the young at the same time.
Do them again etc
it's far better for the memory bank
because down the track you may get your wires crossed, in trying to remember what was done when type of thing, in my view.
Enjoy.

Cheers for the info lads, materials being sourced and build scheduled to start this weekend if the rain holds off.
Busy time ahead Pete I suspect
I would say. I was pleased to see you have a curious mind. Use it to your maximum
& you might just be surprised etc at what you could learn.
-
My concern would be by having nestboxes on the side wall pigeons might struggle flying up to the top boxes.
When some one like Pete, starts off on a small scale etc. Overtime !!!! things tend to grow & change
for what I have found I would throw away the sputnick at this stage
& extend the flight right across the front & have a fly in for the birds to trap into. One hopes !!!, what ever he decides with his new loft he gains a lot of enjoyment out of his new found hobby/sport.

I'm guessing everyone has an area where they keep all the vitamins and medications/potions and similar.
What sort of things have you guys always got on hand that are being used regularly? What would you class as essential items that you always have on hand.
Colloidal silver (Me & the birds)
lemon juice, cinnamon Bi carb soda & vitamin B-12, which I think is very important etc.
Enjoy.

According to what I have read so far Eddy Newcombe should never have won a race far less been the most successful National flier in Scotland.
His 365 days feed was 1/3 BEANS 1/3 AMERICAN CORN 1/3 PEANUTS. I am off the belief that we the fanciers are being brainwashed by the feed company's such as V/Laga to use their mixes as they are the best according to them and feed suppliers who stock nothing else but the product they wish to flog you.
All part of the spin
from the spin doctor's that we are fed now with all these fancy mixtures etc I'm afraid. I would suggest it makes the owners feel good, when they feed those type of mixes to their birds, the birds thou
wonder at times what are we being made to eat this week type of thing & wish there owner's would just use the kiss theory
-
They look like their all part of an advert for washing powder
:emoticon-0136-giggle:
I think their rather nice etc
they look rather femmernate, type of thing to me, I suspect thou
when they run out on the pitch/ground for the big game, there will be a few whistles & kisses coming from over the fence towards them all.One suspects ???
not quite the right colour to put fear in ones opposition & maybe a rethink is required.
Enjoy.

too go and am off too belg for few days with some off the lads on here,. cana wait getting excited now,.
:emoticon-0137-clapping:
Enjoy your trip Stan
Thou !!!!!, could I suggest here

BREAKING NEWS......After reading a link kindly sent to me by Frank 123 I did not realize that if you introduce testing the organization must have a threshold limit and only if a bird proves positive above the threshold limit can action be taken. It really is away above my head, apparently this is a safeguard against banned substances in the bird from unknown sources....far too much for me to take in but shows that it is not as straight forward as many believe.......JBC/..
That to me John,in my view is bringing some normality into the issue etc. Now !!!!! we need to find an expert ??? who can decide what that thresh hold may/will be, in regards to our birds type of thing. Let the fun beging
Enjoy.

not quite so true things like caffeine can get you in bother certain natural herbs and these are found in a lot of common products im far from a expert on the matter
but it seems someone had been banned from racing for a pigeon product that contained caffeine they had to fight for weeks to clear there name and id imagine it cost them a pretty penny along with the stress that came with the positive test i would imagine it must of been hell thats why we need a easy to read list
in other words you don't need a diploma of some medical sort to understand the list after all most pigeon fanicers are normal working class honest people
Very true in what you say etc & I'm also not an expert, type of thing. But !!!!!!!! I also remember reading about the saga in regards to a certain flyer on the P/C forum last year & it turned into a debacle in the end in my view. Also many items which flyers buy would have banned substances in them I believe & for what I have read, the way they justify there cause by the manufacturers etc is that you only use them in the off season. Also I have a large bed of differant herbs that I grow for the birds etc & my mind bogglers what natural items/substances could be in them etc that could find there way onto the banned list unfortunately.
Enjoy.

Have not paired up ,birds never seperated they are pairing up and i am just removing the eggs ,they have been left to pick their own mate .I think i will be opening the boxes this week trying to hold of for as long as i could but i think i am as keen to get going as they are. Some i can see have chosen what i think are good mates ,but we will see.
Interesting Phil
I just hope etc
you have much more luck with your breeding
type of thing. Than your been having with the "Independance issue" on that other chat site, down south at this moment.
Enjoy.

if its being done in holland and belgium dont you think its being done here some people need to take the blinkers off steroids were being used on pigeons here 25 years ago but keep making a case for the guys doing it and they will get away with it imo it should be checked no matter what the cost
Walter !!!!!!!! your view/thought's are quite valid in what you say etc "Thou' it's a pandorer's box type situation I suspect if it was ever implemented etc.The cost factor & the legal challenges that could/would follow could turn out to be an absolute nightmare & at the end of the day & in the worst case senario in would be little man having to folk out in the end I suspect to pay all the costs etc. Sad as it is & in my view rather deployable that we find our sport in this sad situation. But !!!!!!! where it all will end I do not really know type of thing.
Enjoy.

things like this make you not so proud to feel British, instead of throwing money in to food banks and folk who will not get off their a--e they should give it to folk like this
A rather piteful situation I would have to say "Unfortunately" & a shame on the government there. One hopes thou
My Gold card etc here, gives me a better quality of life
compared to his, if I'm fortunate enough to reach his age type of thing.
Enjoy

Has anybody used the groats, and how would you feed them
I love to feed groats etc, my birds have them from when there first in the nest. 5/10 % & all year round "Think of porridge" I would feed more of them type of thing, but they can be somewhat expensive to buy in my local area.
Enjoy.

the only reason was Quotas and genes, it had to many of them (inbreeding) the whole story is all over the internet with all the gory pictures showing a load of kids how to disect one and feed to lions
Cant see why your saying people who are disgusted by it are looking for a fight as I'm entitled to an opinion as is everybody else, perhaps if you read the whole story then comment and this is my opinion only
That's the way I read it etc "Quotas/gene pool" & if that is the case ???? why wouldn't a person be somewhat disgusted etc. One hopes !!! those in charge there, don't tell the rest of the animals what their fate more than likely will be, when the numbers get out of hand. Also !!!!! what mental capacity did the brains trust have there having the young kids watch the sorry saga.
-
Trust me vegetable pakoras would have sorted that monster out lol
Maybe so with what you say
hard to beat thou
a man who likes his baked beans etc & I suspect !!!!!! there has been the odd trillion or 2 ?????? of them eating, by the peasants in this world of ours.
Enjoy.

What about the man
that had to collect it all etc. before he put it in his cart
I still remember the day here I threw a rock at him with success "Unfortunately" & it also was the day !!!! I learnt how to run fast, like a cheetah type of thing.
Enjoy.
