I currently use a standard bob trap. I was thinking of going with a drop trap, or a sputnik. I was told with a sputnik that no settling cage is required because they sun in it and learn to re-enter that way. Is this true? I like the idea of skipping the whole settling cage. Most of my young birds now try to get inside through the aviary first once failing then go to the bobs. So I figure the sputnik would be the same idea but they could enter. Can anyone confirm this before I make my buying decision? Thank you

No the bird acts fine and can even fly. Her bad eye the pupil is normal and dark, but the iris is yellow. I can stick my finger right up to her eye and she has no response. If I try it on the grey eye she moves off quickly.

I have a new Budapest pigeon who I realized is blind in one eye. One of her eyes is grey and the blind eye is yellow. Does anyone know if this is just a genetic thing or a disease? Anything I can do for her? The other two birds i got have fine eyes and both are grey in color. The seller now will not reply to my emails kindly asking any info on her eye. Imagine that.

Does the wheat germ really work? Or is that a joke?

I have 5 breeding age birds. Two hens and three cocks. I am using them strictly as breeders and have been conditioning them for breeding. i have given them some calcium in the water and fresh grit daily. I really would like some young birds to fly so I am wondering what is the quickest way to get the birds interested in breeding. I plan to keep two large box style cages in my garage with the two cock birds. One in each pen, and then after leaving them separated for a month or so when I add a hen will they be eager to reproduce? I am allowing them to finish up their moult before even enticing them. Also are they ok being in a breeding cage so to speak? I am planning on building a flying loft, and then after i have a stable number of birds add these breeders to the flock and fly them for fun. Thanks for any input, I have them all together now in a large covered flight and the cocks seem to have no interest in the hens.

I think I will medicate just in case. Also worming her may help if thats why she seems light. Thank you, and yes I also thought she may have hurt her wing in the past. This is a recent photo of her.

Would you recommend treating just in case? She does seem a little thin or maybe it is just because she is smaller. If this impediment is from a past illness is she still ok to breed?

She is an 05, so around 2 years old. i have 3 cocks, and one other hen. All are larger and extremely strong on the wing. They can even do a 180 in the air if they decide to change directions, something this smaller hen is incapable of. Also sometimes if another pigeon slightly collides with her in flight she will hit the ground and run around until she gets to the highest point before she flys to the closest perch. Almost as if she knows flying is not the easiest thing for her. I have been advised to treat with Trimethoprim/Sulpha.

I am posting here for a second opinion. I am just starting up with pigeons and I have 5 homing pigeons. One of my females is slightly smaller than the other hen, and she flys kind of awkwardly, almost as if she is not strong on the wing. She does move from perch to perch, and when she flys down to feed she anything but graceful kind of hits with a plop. She eats well, drinks, and i have added calcium to their water thinking she may be deficient. I was advised on another board to medicate. She has solid droppings and looks fine, acts fine, just is not a strong flyer at all. She has been vaccinated for PMV, and salmonella. Any ideas or input?
