  1. Wiley, I'd love to know that, too! He was perfectly fine when I left. Happy and healthy and looking good. I had just gotten him less than a week ago, too. I am devastated but it happens and life goes on. :'(
  2. My cock bird died. He had normal eyes. It is a fancy hen that has the strange eye.
  3. Sorry that “quick” turned into three days. I lost track of time and had to leave for camping. Anyway, came home tonight to find my prize Frillback dead. I am not in the mood to try to take another photo of the bird with the strange eye. Thanks for all your help everyone, I really appreciate it.
  4. The bird has very vivid orange irises, just one strange tear-drop shaped pupil! Let me grab the camera and get a picture. It is a very "flighty" pigeon and perhaps that could explain its behavior if it cannot see properly?
  5. Actually my friend who judges pigeons got the band moved back up where it belongs. It took a little work but it really wasn't hard. She said that she always banded the lower leg because the band should be loose and if it is on the lower leg it won't move around. In other words it was loose enough to move back up.
  6. I saw a pigeon today with a tear-drop shaped pupil. Only one eye was like this. Is this the result of an injury, genetics, or just a fluke? Will the bird be disqualified from showing in the future? Thanks.
  7. Thank you for the input. I did not band the bird, so I can't say why it was able to be moved, other than the fact that she is still young and growing. Her only major fault is her color, she has too much white and some bronzing on the underside of her wings. Otherwise she is a nice bird.
  8. Hello everyone. I am very new to this forum, and new to pigeons. I was just given my first pair of frillbacks. They are good birds, the cock is exceptional, and while the hen has some faults she is still young has a lot of growing to do and we are confident that she will cross well with the cock and produce some very nice youngsters. Anyway, I had a friend out looking at the birds and she noticed that their bands were high up on the leg. She moved one down before I could stop her and explain that the breeder put them up there so they would not damage the birds’ muffs. Unfortunately, the band that was moved happened to be on the hen and she is very skittish and flighty and I have trouble handling her. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can move the band back up without hurting the bird? I am thinking I should try to move the band when the sun starts to go down, because the birds seem a lot calmer then.
