  1. so i walked into my loft and saw a bird who was droopy and doesnt want to fly. picked her up and feels like she has an egg that she wants to lay. Anything i can do to help her? i seem to remember something about a warm water soak... but i couldnt find any threads on this.
  2. half of my breeders are prisoners. under my current set up... after they lay their last round of eggs i open the doors for them to fly inside the room.
  3. i have seen too many random cocks tread hens that are mated to other cocks. it is purely to keep my breeding records correct.
  4. many people seem to like to use the trap door. chase them out the door when you let them fly and when you what to crate them... you place the crates against the trap door and chace them through. crate many birds in much less time and much less stress
  5. little history: the last two years i have used jedd's tower. i find that the birds do much better when i let fly in and out. they have a hard time breeding and exercising due to the small size of the "individual breeding boxes" So i am making the plans for my next loft. and i want to build my own slightly larger locked breeding boxes. i would like to be able to have two nest bowls (one on shelf one on bottom). and enough room for them to stay healthy. Can anyone give me some suggestions on the size? (in stupid american measurements if possible) Thank you Shawn
  6. i have had my dummy eggs disappear... and i cant help but wonder if i threw them away thinking they were real eggs lol
  7. i have noticed that my loft has a magic number... everytime i go over that number i loose birds. old birds young birds. there seemes to be no pattern to the birds i loose... just that fact that it always goes back to that max number.
  8. i have been wondering recently if dummy eggs really need to be white'ish wouldnt it be nice if they were a different colour so that we wouldnt stupidly throw them away. (forget who i stole this picture from... but i still love it!)
  9. we should be all mature people who can give and take opinions without getting nasty . I did not find your post negative in anyway. if we all did everything the same way... then there would probally be no sport at all. the fact that we all do things differently is part of what makes it interesting.
  10. friday is shipping night. get em rest up and ready
  11. how they doing? been a week... kinda curious.
  12. yep... the hen does not care if the cock can fly 400miles the fastest. she will look for the aggressive cock that will protect her and her next box. The cock that struts his stuff the best. Personally, i think sometimes giving mother nature a nudge in the right direction is needed. of course if you have a loft full of 1st placer... then hell ya... let them pick eachother... best example... dang rollers mate like crazy in our old bird loft. finially had get rid of them. symbro
  13. ofcourse what birds look for in eachother may not be what we look for in a good racer...
  14. so... wot = what for ya welshy's
