Chipping (2/8)

  1. What the hell is going on? I go away fro a few days and look what thisthread has turned into! I am not called Owen, I don't live in Essex. Any other questions? The pigeons I had from Warren foster went back as they were all a mix, the cross bred tumbler he gave me would fly off for a few days then return, I lost a white one, one wasn't a true pair so Warren said just to forget about the whole thing and he would take them back. And yes, I would still like chocolate coloured racers if anyone has got any but I havent seen any. No, I don't have my Harris Hawk any longer. He went months ago!
  2. Thanks everyone. I do have some rollers at the moment but I have always had a fascination with racers. If I could get hold of some latebreds this year, get them flying out, I might consider racing next year.
  3. Hi All, I am looking for some Racing Pigeons in the Kent area. Can anyone help? Can't afford to pay too much. Don't think I will be racing, just something nice to have flying around. Thanks alot, Jamie
  4. I'll third that. Very nice guy. Helped me at first and sent me a DVD for free (very informative) and has offered me 4 pigeons to get me started.
  5. Thanks for that Jimmy and Frank. Do you know Lee Buddle's username?
  6. Thanks for the input guys. I went to see Warren the other day, he has some very nice birds there and it was lovely watching the whites fly. I was warned to be careful as he has a very sales man type about him but that is probably true as it is his business. He seemed genuine and was very nice to me. He gave me some old copies of the International Pictorial magazine (one from 1984!) and some recent copies of the Homing World magazine, he also gave me the 2009 Stud Book and a book he wrote called "The Little White Emperor". He let me look around his avairies (yes they were a bit dirty but he said it was so cold, he didn't want to be up there - I do think that was a bit wrong as I believe the health of the animal comes first and surely sitting in all your own sh*t isn't good). I saw a lovely little gay pied hen there which he said I could have (she was produced from 2 whites) and he said he would try and pair her up for me with a red cock free of charge to get me started! I thought that was a very nice gesture from him (I certainly couldn't afford his prices as they start at £100 each). He also said they will need a bit of a clean up but I can have a food trough, a water fountain and a training crate which again was very nice of him. I have decided to take him up on his offer as to me he seemed genuine and I have nothing to loose. The pair of birds will be stock birds and I will keep you updated as to what they produce which I will hopefully try and fly.

    Pigeons

I have a mate looking for some white and/or chocolate pigeons. They are for pets just to fly for some fun. Can anyone help?
  8. Just watched a DVD (thanks Thunderboult - it taught me a lot!) and went to see a local man who keeps fancy pigeons. Both fanciers had very nice set ups and all the avairies/cages were painted white and they have never had a problem. Also, I have finally convinced Dad and he installed a light into my little loft today!
  9. I know what you mean. Thanks for that. I tried to do it on a weekly basis but only when it was sunny so after a couple of hours out flying, when we came back it was dry and the water all just run on the sides and drained through the gravel and soil (although it was getting a bit damp under the plastic coating but I have got rid of that now anyway).
  10. Is it ok to use pea shingle/gravel on the floor of the loft? My loft currently has pea shingle on the bottom as my hawk used to live in there and I would just take the bird out, go in with a jet wash and wash it all down and it would come up nice. Can I do this with the pigeons? I have ordered plastic perches so they should all be easy to wash but just wondered about the base. I hope it will be ok and without thinking, as I was doing the loft/shed up, I went out and bought more pea shingle! :B Thanks in advance.
  11. I have painted the loft! Reason being was, I used to house my hawk in there (I no longer have him so don't panic!) and on a weekly basis, I used to go in there with a jet wash and spray it all down. The untreated wood had a plastic coating on so it was easy for me to wipe down but the water seemed to be getting under it, not being able to escape and hence creating mould on it. I stipped it all down to the wood, put a white undercoat on yesterday and have just put the top coat on today. I used a gloss white as recommended by some "paint specialist" at B&Q and I must admit, it is nice and shiny and smooth so I hope it will be easy to wipe down. It's nice a bright and airy in there now - just hope the pigeons don't mind it! Next year, when I put the breeding boxes in there, I will paint them a dark colour anyway.
  12. Thanks people. It's ok, mum and dad are fine with me having some pigeons but dad just dosen't get it and is trying to put me off. Do they actually poo all over the garden? Thought if they were not in the loft, they would be of flying - not sitting in my garden!
  13. My nan and grandad (and dad to a certain extent) think I am silly wanting pigeons. They say they are full of fleas, flying rats, sh*t bags, poop all over your garden etc. Trying to convince them they are not (not that it matters). I told them that racing pigeons are different etc. but anyone got any good advice/facts I can tell them?
  14. Thanks for that. Yep, I am 15 so getting out during the week could be a problem. So you don't have to train during the week if you are flying the widowhood system?
