  1. Hey all, friendly face popping back in briefly Sapper had all the details on why the change had to happen, and when. The look and feel did change a bit with the update, but hopefully with a bit of time getting used to it there will be some benefits. A couple of pointers; Portal-like functionality can be found in a couple of places; the "Unread Content" link under the top bar, or this direct link http://forum.pigeonbasics.com/discover/unread/ the "All Activity" link under the Activity menu in the dark bar, or this direct link http://forum.pigeonbasics.com/discover/ and there are lots of options to filter and find other content on those pages too, like lists of Content I Posted In and Content I Started On smaller screens and mobile phones the forum will look a little different - it now has what they call a responsive design - which means less zooming in and out of the "big" version. The content is the same it has just been made into one column or popped behind some menus. On desktop the sidebar (with some adverts) is a little wider than before, and on mobile it drops to the bottom of the page. Adverts can be annoying, but it's how the site's bills are paid. If you are not logged in there is one additional advert near the top of the page. Log in, and that one is no longer displayed. The adverts are roughly the same as was in the before times. I've attached a couple of screenshots of the views like you should be seeing. If they are drastically different do let us know and we can take a look into it
  2. Well done everyone I'd like to thank Ian, for running these sales for such a great cause. And of course to the other mods that picked up bids when I wasnt around, and often quicker than me when I was Cheers guys.
  3. I've had a look at the site and this is what I believe to be happening. A component of the page sometimes takes a long time to load, and can fail to load at all (times-out). Internet Explorer seems to not display anything while this component is outstanding, and when it times-out sometimes shows an error. Other browsers dont block the page from displaying while waiting which is why it seems fine when using them. I havent yet been able to identify why this is happening, and as Archie suggests a stopgap while we're trying to work this out is to download another web browser and use that.
  4. Hi Frank Yes Pigeon Sport Live will be up and running for the coming season. A development version is up and running right now (albeit not publically), which I will be opening up to a few people to do some beta testing in the coming weeks. I can only apologise to the people waiting, it has been mighty frustrating not to have a system up and running for so long, but I beleive it will be worth the wait Richard
  5. Happy Birthday Archie Apologies for the gremlins earlier, sent the dog in to flush them out, he says they're gone but he'll keep watch just in case
  6. Changing the whole layout is a pretty huge remit. If you want to list some specific problems, and some thoughts on improvements we can see what we can do
  7. On the side of your picture, above the Sign Out link a number (with a green background) will be displayed when you have new PMs. Also depending on your settings a popup window to inform you when you next are online, and/or an email will be sent to your registered email address.
  8. The new PM system is limited to 50 conversations (think of a conversation as a forum topic). Each conversation can have many replies (like posts to a topic) though - so it's best to probably try and use one conversation per member that you PM. The old forum only limited on inbox filesize, which worked much more like email - which soon got cluttered if yours was anything like my inbox

    Welcome Back

The Portal setup is different. The Portal is now based on newest TOPICS. For a similar drill-down of new posts to the old forum, hit the "View New Content" link which is just under the search box on the right. We're using the .org for a couple of weeks while the rest of the site is moved onto the new server. Once that's complete we'll be using .com again - and staying that way The settings and PMs do work a little differently, hopefully with a little practice they'll become as familiar as before. Do you know your screen resolution? - for me to check the settings page widths.
  10. Just had a look. Yes, that won't be available in the downtime. Perhaps you could post this list up somewhere on the forum here in the meantime?
  11. The will be available in the present location only until the rest of the site is moved to the new server - which will be over the next couple of weeks. I'm planning to launch a limited version of the new site (results only) asap, but there will be a little downtime. A rough estimate would be 4 weeks or so - a couple of weeks after Pigeonbasics is completely transferred to the new servers.
  12. This is an update to the situation regarding the mini-sites which I know many of you have been asking about. The mini-sites are moving to the new address: http://www.PigeonSportLive.com As with the maintenance period that is happening on the Forum, the mini-sites will also close at the current Pigeonbasics.com address within the next few days. I have been working on the new site - a rebuild from the ground up - for a few months now, but unfortunately it is not quite ready for the prime time just yet. So there will be some downtime between switching to the new address. Unfortunately this is unavoidable. I will post updates to this as soon as they're available, and of course on the PigeonSportLive site.
