Redchequen, Yes you are right, I use 35ml on a 3.5 lts drinker and I get like 4.0 on PH...I normally add 150ml of Enviroboost to 1lt of apple cider vinegar and that is what I use in the drinking water. I think that the worst thing are the carriers, those pigeon that look great but they are salmonella carriers... Anyway...Vive la Salmonella!!!! that is a neighbor problem, not mine...all my pigeons look great!!!, hmmmm I have three pigeons that I am sure they have salmonella, one died yesterday, a very good stock bird...the other two, their feces are green, pallid green, they have lost weight, one of them has one foot like bumble foot, hardly can put weight on it, I have injected them with .3ml of enrofloxacine (baytril) for one week, every day...they were exactly in the same situation not going worst not improving, since two days ago I decided to give them only trimethoprim , one quarter of a tablet per day, they both look a little better, its hard to find such a medication, Mercasystem has a product that has it, Antimicina. I insist, the best way is to prevent it, disinfect, clean (dont take me wrong, my loft has easy bed on it, I change the top every week, and I spray on top a solution with F10 diluted). The utilization of products like the Salgar or similar, I think will do the job. Salgar (I just read about his product) kills the salmonella in 95% in 24 hours, it only works on the guts of the bird and in the environment, its not absorbed to the blood stream which means it wont kill the bacteria once is establish in other organs or on the blood stream and promotes the good bacteria, much like a probiotic with the peculiarity that effectively kills gram negative bacteria like the salmonella. Its a daily product, using it everyday you assure that no salmonella will be established in your flock and will promote good health in the pigeons. The recommended doses is 2 gr per kg of food, which means one kg of this product will do 500kg of corn, the bad news is that the smallest presentation is 25 kg (12500 kgs of corn), two years of product. I would love to hear any other ideas or methods on how to deal with Salmonella....that will help me and other fanciers...I am quite sure there is a lot of experience in this forum... I have been in Scotland for 4 years now, I have seen and handled a lot of very nice pigeons and every year I have seen a lot of losses, my guess is that not all the birds are healthy and poor health is one of the main reasons of the quantity of looses and not the quality of the birds. People spend enormous amounts of money acquiring excellent wining blood, and still the looses are quite high, are the birds rubbish?, I dont think so, but the handling I think its not at the same level as the quality of the birds.

Have a look at the following links, yes you have to read, but if you are interested in the health of your pigeons its worth to spend 15 min, reading them. 95% of the active racing loft have or has been in touch with salmonella. Some facts. Salmonella enterica, subsp. enterica, serovar typhimurium, variant copenhagen is the serotype that affects pigeons, here under I just call it Salmonella. Salmonella is not spread by rodents. Salmonella in pigeons its a strain that only affects pigeons, only transmitted by pigeons to pigeons, ferals, racing, homing, etc, any type of pigeon Salmonella its a intra cell disease, meaning, the white blood cells protecting the body will eat-engulf the bacteria, during that period the antibiotic is worthless, the white blood cell is protecting the bacteria against the antibiotic, at the time the white blood cell died, the bacteria is released again into the blood stream... isn't it great??? that is the main reason why long periods of antibiotics are required... During the medication time, the loft has to be disinfected with F-10, Virkon. Salmonella can survive and multiply in the environment. Salmonella prefers an alkaline environment. Water with apple cyder vinegar, etc, will acidified the environment helping to control the salmonella numbers...make you a favor, buy you the PH tester papers, and use them in the pigeons drinking water, you will be amaze on the amount of apple cider vinegar needed to lower the PH. Quarantine is a must for new incomers to the loft Racing...arghhhhh, yes its one if not the main source of infection. Basketing, racing and all the stress involved during competitions makes an excellent terrain for the salmonella to grow and spread. There is more...please go through the links below...its worth, if you love your pigeons and you enjoy the hobby, its worth to spend some time reading these two links, they will give you a better understanding on how salmonella works and how to combat it. KISS, keep it simple...F10 or Virkon, every time you clean your loft and perches...use probiotics (Salgard is highly recommended...difficult to find in small presentations), acidify the water...use PH testers. if you are going to cure, isolate the sick bird and use Sulpha AVS, rather than antibiotic...if you are going to use antibiotic, enrofloxacine works fine or sulphur based antibiotics x 14 days.
