Due to the ongoing reports year after year of fanciers losing lots of youngsters during the racing,

Do any fanciers simply train their youngsters only, in their year of birth and save them to race as yearlings?

If yes, how far do you train them out?

What is your experience of doing this?

Any other advice/Info?

thanks in advance.

I am doing that this year trying something new Brian I can’t say if it will work but my birds have been trained to the coast a number of times and will as the weeks go on reduce the numbers they are let up in until their confident to come signally from the coast

How far is it from the coast to you Ryan ????

Dead south is 50 mile the way the crow flies, however I can go south west like the race programmes go and get about 127 miles, but I’ll just be sticking to the line I want them to come from

Friend of mine has not raced a youngster for 20 plus years

He is a national winner and a Scottish averages winner on more than one occasion

He lightly trains to 30 miles

Most fanciers enjoy young bird racing or used to as its part of the season but the myth that they are better birds is just that

If not why are they not national and average winners
