Has anyone heard of an outbreak that the scottish government has declared that all captive birds be kept in doors for 30 days starting today

There was an outbreak in Fife that started late December 2015, but I haven't heard anything this year. The 30-day lock-down arrangements only apply within a zone of 1 Kilometer radius from the infected premises.

Anybody who keeps any birds including a few chickens in the back garden.....

Obviously. 100% correct. Like most think, to be safe, they act En - block! Personally I can't see any way around that ... Only hope Bob Hope which won't count.

I think, by and large Joe Public would know nowt. But if caught I'd guess the Daffy lot might want to make an example. Who knows. JMO two pence worth.

I work in a small petting zoo in Aberdeen and the bosses phoned this morning after them being contacted by the authorities, complete lock down of all birds that have access to wild bird populations. And to ensure wild birds cannot access feeders or drinking waters of any of our birds, including the fantails, now trying to get the lazy bassers in 😂

Bird restrictions ordered over avain flu...

That scottish government has ordered that ALL POULTRY and CATPIVE BIRDS MUST be kept INDOORS .after an alert over avain flu .

In a precautionary step it has declared an Avain influenza prevention zone .

It said it was reacting to multiple reports of the disease causing deaths among wild birds in mainland europe ...

THE RESTRICTIONS COVER THE WHOLE OF SCOTLAND AND WILL BE IN PLACE FOR 30 DAYS FROM TODAY ....

This taken from bbc news report ..

well what can I say .

poor birds of prey will just have to eat wild .maybe they'll starve maybe they'll even get the flu maybe the RSSPB will have to feed them oh what a tragedy need to watch they dont start buying up pigeons .

From RPRA site

Avian Influenza (Bird Flu) Prevention Zone

7 December 2016

DEFRA have released guidance in relation to Avian Influenza which includes a Prevention Zone declaration for all poultry and captive birds. The Zone that covers the whole of England and Scotland will remain in place for a period of 30 days – until 6th January 2017.

A DEFRA representative has advised that this requires the immediate and compulsory confinement of pigeons within their lofts/housing. This is necessary to avoid contact with wild birds.

We have received a number of enquiries asking whether or not shows are permissible. We are waiting for confirmation from DEFRA. As soon as information is received we will update this website.

Updates will also be posted on this website as and when received.

Further information can be found on this page of the gov.uk website.

DEFRA have released guidance in relation to Avian Influenza which includes a Prevention Zone declaration for all poultry and captive birds. The Zone that covers the whole of England, Scotland and Wales will remain in place for a period of 30 days – until 6th January 2017.

A DEFRA representative has advised that this requires the immediate and compulsory confinement of pigeons within their lofts/housing. This is necessary to avoid contact with wild birds.

There are no restrictions on bird gatherings such as shows but it is stressed that it is essential that good biosecurity is maintained and birds should be healthy before transporting.

Updates will also be posted on this website as and when received.
