Splayed Legs

Just got back from a week in Devon and found two nests the birds have splayed legs was ok when I rung them last weekend, can anything be done this is the worst breeding season I have ever had I only have 5 youngsters

It's unlikely that they will improve. The common cause is lack of nesting material but not always.

When there is only one young bird in the nest this can be a problem. I use potatoes or sweet potatoes in the nest bowl to give support to the youngster. Using nest felts helps as well.

Put a plastic clip on ring on the non ring leg and tie a bit of string between the two rings pulling the legs closer together. Sometimes it works sometimes it don't, depends on how quick you catch it.

Yes you can get it to reset if as you say quickly if it droops at all when flying best place the bin unless its a line breed you need
