paddymac
A clubmate last year started a 3yr old hen that was never ever trained or raced, she was coming quite steady and even returned from a bad race around 230mls. She was sent to St Malo (France) 500+ mls and was timed early the next morning to win the club and was the 2nd out of only 5 birds that were timed into Derry from the French race point. The hen was bred down from the late George Gauld (Gauld & Wilson) Bricoux bloodlines that were raced very well into the west of Scotland. I was well pleased to be gifted the Yb in the nest that the hen was racing to.
Kyleakin Lofts
I have a 2010 stock hen that I started racing two years ago as a 3YO. I don't send her that far, only out to 130 miles. I also have some George Gauld pigeons, but they haven't been tested properly yet.
andy Burgess
yes , just 1 though . i was gifted a late-bred in the nest from a club-mate who had timed his only entry to win 1st club 4th fed 6th combine from Saintes 510 miles (its sire) . it was 2005 and only my 2nd year, so i flew the red cock at home , put it in the stock loft in the Winter, with the hope i would breed a loft full of potential Saintes winners. all its offspring the following year were ,,,,,,,,,,,, lost i put it on the road as a 2 year old and flew it out to 180 miles, didnt win anything , but then my loft only took 1 card all season i gifted it along with 5 other birds to a new start site member down South, who never transferred the birds
paddymac
All of Georges best birds were brought to Derry and have done well amongst local fanciers.

dal2
Last year I took a four yr old hen ( never been out for three years) from the stock loft. Lovely hen in the hand but sadly never bred anything. Stuck her in a basket and she went out to 250 after 3 20 mile trainers. Planning on winning the gold cup with her this year.!!! Never trained as a young bird
Delboy
I have 4 2012 stock birds that I started racing last year as 3 yr olds. Two of them flew out to 280 mls and the other 2 to 230 mls, no probs. I remember the late Jack McGougan telling me he sometimes kept pigeons until 2yr old before training/racing. He reckoned they had homed in a lot better at that age and he scored well with them.

Mossgiel
Jocky King of Kirkcaldy had a pigeon - Fairisle King - he was not raced until he was 2 years old, flew the channel 10 times scoring 5 times. He was also a top breeder being sire, grand sire and great grand sire of many winners.
Kyleakin Lofts
All of Georges best birds were brought to Derry and have done well amongst local fanciers.I have a 2010 cock whose sire came from George in 2009. I bought two, but they both turned out to be cocks. Neither are still with me and neither left anything in the loft, except this one cock whose dam came from Mike Binnie. I have his dam left from the pigeons Mike gave me and a son of one of Mike's cocks. That cock has been paired back to his aunt and several are beginning to show well. The George Gauld cross still hasn't produced anything, although he has been paired to several hens. He was the second pigeon I managed to time out of Thurso. I have three in the loft from him. Two of last year's latebreds when he was paired to a Frank Baillie hen and one when he was paired to Rab Anderson's old Red Walkinshaw hen. I'll find how the latebreds fare this year, the other one raced out to 130 miles after suffering two bad races, one at 100 miles and the other was her return at 130 miles. She obviously was rushed into that one, so I still don't have the measure of her yet.

tommy2
We tried just that ..no racing as yougbirds ...no racing as yearlings...as 2year olds flew very well north, then south... i blue cock won 50 mile sprint in 35 member club...and as broken pigeon few years later won 2nd section out of Barcelona well over 700 miles, another in same batch has flew Barcelona 3 times ...just shows at those distances its all PIGEON..not fancier...Regards.. tommy2
i intend to try this system as i think its viable for me as i have only a few birds and very limited time ? You need to put time in...never belive the lies many winning fanciers con you with...esecially youngbird racing...time is everything for winners of youngbird races...until you get way out distance racing ..everthing changes then the football pitch we play on begins to level up...many many times i have seen brilliant sprint teams hit a brick wall as they reach outside their distance controlled comfort zone... best Regards
