Not sure but I know I cant keep reds or mealies. Pied doos do a bit better. White flights are fine but generally all my doos are blues or chequers, that's after a good few years of percy and hawk natural selection, I think.

I remember reading somewhere that they use some sort of thermal recognition when hunting and red is a hot colour, so they stand out more in a batch of mainly blues. Apparently if you have a flock of mostly reds they single out the blues. The natural order is for a proliferation of blues, so the minority reds are targeted first. :)

Seemingly there was a wee kick up because I had dots on my ybs going to the National and it was stated they wouldn't be accepted next year if they had the paint on???? I cannot see how anybody can stop you doing this??

Don't know Willie but I can understand both sides of it. Security is paramount in these races but until there is a rule put in the book about it then ill continue to try and protect my birds as best as I can ( whether the spay works or not ).

When it comes to the SNFC young bird race all wing stamps had to be blotted out with a black permenant marker, this amounts to the same thing as you have (different colour but a mark.

reds and mealies are definitely targeted more by bop here in south wales valleys..used sequins in the past and on one occasion i had a kit of yb,s heading for the loft being escorted by a mature peregrine hen,it looked baffled by all the flashing that was going on.it wouldnt go near those yb,s,so i thought i would mention what i saw with my own eyes.. :drinking-coffee-200:

How did you fix the sequins? :)

Well one must remember that Peregrines even are scavengers and like all B.O.P. / Raptors they won't give up on a easy meal.

Roly, survival dictates that they also have to eat, but even if we are able to confuse them for a short time it may assist our feathered charges. :)

fix the sequins with superglue near the end of the flights..that,s all i did,you can put some clear nail varnish over them...a m8 of mine fixed a sequin on the head of one of his yb,s it went on to win a big race from peniquick up in the borders, that was amazing,so ,as i say i saw it working with my own eyes, worth a try,if you put gold sequins on a black or dark pigeon the flashing has to be seen to be believed... :drinking-coffee-200:

I have a stamp somewhere in the house in the shape of an eye, must have had it for at least 20 years, ink etc. with it,I'll have a ratch and put a photo up,if I find it ?

Remember pigeons don't fly with their wings fully extended so when you do put a marker on consider this.

Where they called TERROR EYES.

Don't want to stir up past arguments but a certain fancier had used a dip in the past in Nat races.
