gooner Posted November 21, 2009 Report Posted November 21, 2009 And where was my Son "Gooner" when he was young lad. I won't answer that, will let him tell you when he comes on and reads it. ;) He may be my Son but he is also my best mate when i was young i was alwaqys down the garden in the loft, at thye age of 10 anyone could come round and i could tell them what each bird was out iof and what it had won my own opinion on the decline of the sport is in a nut shell its to expensive for kids, but if every fancier took one youngster under his wing then the membership would double
Guest IB Posted November 21, 2009 Report Posted November 21, 2009 All sports are in decline for the same reason - difficulty in attracting youth. Agree there is a cost problem and young people might benefit from subsidy. But there is another group with time & money who we may be able to interest, and those are the recently retired. They might bring a young grandchild with them too.
Fair Play Posted November 21, 2009 Report Posted November 21, 2009 Plenty of time Ian but unfortunately little or no money always bills to pay and if you do get a works pension TAXED and excludes you from all benefits but would love my grandkids to be involved and would help as I could- Not all worked for HBOS ;D ;D

dwh Posted November 21, 2009 Report Posted November 21, 2009 how can this great sport of ours be called a hobby it is now and alway has been very intense time consuming and takes the dedication of a professional athlete you can introduce and educate the great british public as much as you want on what it takes to become a successful pigeonfancier but this will not sttop the sport continuing on its downward spiral it has become expensive to start up and expensive to continue in a manner that enables a man/woman to compete at a level where he shows a viable return for his money because lets be honest gone are the days where new starters join the sport for the love of it and the cammeraderie for a lot of men today its all about MONEY and i'm sorry if i've offended anybody but if the cap fits!

Guest lenwadebob Posted November 22, 2009 Report Posted November 22, 2009 Not a case of the doo's doing the talking. More a case of giving to the youngsters ,and not being afraid of being beaten by a young "whipper snapper" beating you with your own birds. I love it when a young kid beats me and when asked, who he got his birds from, he says "THE MAN WHO SET ME UP AND GOT ME STARTED" ....... THAT'S WHAT WE ALL SHOULD BE AIMING FOR. RATHER THAN GIVING THEM SH*T AND SAYING "I'VE DONE MY BIT"
Guest stb- Posted November 22, 2009 Report Posted November 22, 2009 To many personality clashes and bitching dosent help for growth in the pigeon game now :-/ :B :B wee all race pigeons get on with it enjoy it and cut out the negative stuff :o

RATHER THAN GIVING THEM SH*T AND SAYING "I'VE DONE MY BIT" i was talking to a top flyer in my fed and a mate.he said he gets more of a kick out of his race birds if he has bred it and given it as a gift (can,t wait till i get my 6 next year)

Henrik Posted November 22, 2009 Report Posted November 22, 2009 THE OTHER POINT IS THERE IS A LOT OF DISAGREEMENT BETWEEN FANCIERS IN THE SPORT THAT WE COULD DO WITHOUT GETTING THE SCOTTISH MEMBERS WE HAVE AT PRESENT ALL WORKING TOGETHER FOR THE COMMON GOOD WOULD GREAT I KNOW THAT IS A TALL ORDER BUT WHAT A DIFFERENCE THAT WOULD MAKE FOR A START TO OUR AILING SPORT Aye its fine for all that did not suffer losses when the split came but what are we to do that did? Just roll over and accept back the people who caused the problem in the first place which is what those who did not suffer loss would like us to do. The way ahead is for to let Scottish Pigeons be ruled by the SHU and the RPRA to look after England. The Ringleaders of the Split should not be glorified as the are in some circles and that is the only way forward.
Fair Play Posted November 22, 2009 Report Posted November 22, 2009 Sorry, there are two sides to every story but how can the sport ever move forward if the same old rhetoric keeps getting racked up, is it possible to be constructive rather than destructive :-/ :-/ :-/

OLDYELLOW Posted November 22, 2009 Report Posted November 22, 2009 is pigeon racing in decline or the silly prices that one demands are too high ? pigeon racing is pedominately an old mans hobby , most that take it up are pensioners , they have 1 the avialbe free income and means to take part , along with free time thats the difference with a younger person who has family , as for prices of birds it comes down to basic market demands if there is demand there will always be supply , most auctions are there to get the maximum for a brd shop wisely and can get same for a fraction of the cost , auctioneers only get high prices when inflated by over zelous bidders all after the same birds its a buyers market its up to the individual how much any bird is worth
