Delboy Posted November 21, 2009 Report Posted November 21, 2009 Then you have the cranks that come on here to abuse folk, hiding behind stupid names. These people are dragging the sport into disrepute.

Guest youngzimmy Posted November 21, 2009 Report Posted November 21, 2009 we seem to be getting off the beaten track here where is all the constroctive ideas for the contionuation of the sport here in scotland
Novice Posted November 21, 2009 Report Posted November 21, 2009 There is no easy answer to this. Firstly we need to eliminate the reasons for people leaving---mainly this would be by improving returns. This is complex but we need to control raptors and avoid clashing. Secondly we need to encourage new fanciers--this has already been done in some areas by introducing youngsters to the hobby. I use the word hobby deliberately.
tiger Posted November 21, 2009 Report Posted November 21, 2009 ur right but it not just in scotland its all over dont think theres asimple fix we need 2 promote ur sport .
Thimbles Posted November 21, 2009 Report Posted November 21, 2009 theres not enough young people in the sport there will soon be no pigeon racing and pigeon men dont have to be on here to abuse eachother it happens in clubs all over the country during the racing season maybe if people stopped treating pigeon racing as a business and kept it to a hobby we would get on alot better
Guest Gareth Rankin Posted November 21, 2009 Report Posted November 21, 2009 There has been some/little work done on encouraging young members (schools) but believe that the way to save our sport is to raise the awareness in the working class as this is the only quick fix that is out there to save the decline within the sport, have said on many occasions that 70-80% of the British population no absolutely nothing about the pigeon sport, but the only way this will work is by having members taxed that are already in the sport and these funds could be used by a full time pigeon fancier PR body that will go out there and raise awareness, educate and give them the back up to become fully fledged pigeon fanciers.
Guest youngzimmy Posted November 21, 2009 Report Posted November 21, 2009 you may call it a hobby if you like but when people are investing 1100 euros in one bird it has progressed beyond hobby status we all want good racing the points you have made are relevant to a degree but it is the members who are left in the sport to put there heads together and agree away forward to safgaurd our sport with less argument and disagrement and a lot more positive thinking for the good of all in our sport in scotland
Thimbles Posted November 21, 2009 Report Posted November 21, 2009 exactly the hobbys dead so let the business men get on with it when theres no everyday hobbyist in the sport to buy the business mans birds it will soon go back to hobby status
Guest youngzimmy Posted November 21, 2009 Report Posted November 21, 2009 constructive coments would be a bonus nuthin goes backwards it only goes forwards and we have to think of what it is we want for the future and work for it together

This is the only way we can keep the pigeon game going. Too many folk talk a good game and do f all, that includes most folk on this site, therefore lets pay someone to do it for us, in a professional manner.A high percentage of the money made at Blackpool show should go towards promoting the sport and bringing new people into it.This makes good business sense, pay someone to bring folk into sport = higher attendance at Blackpool show and so the cycle continues. The recovery of the pigeon sport begins.
Guest youngzimmy Posted November 21, 2009 Report Posted November 21, 2009 THE OTHER POINT IS THERE IS A LOT OF DISAGREEMENT BETWEEN FANCIERS IN THE SPORT THAT WE COULD DO WITHOUT GETTING THE SCOTTISH MEMBERS WE HAVE AT PRESENT ALL WORKING TOGETHER FOR THE COMMON GOOD WOULD GREAT I KNOW THAT IS A TALL ORDER BUT WHAT A DIFFERENCE THAT WOULD MAKE FOR A START TO OUR AILING SPORT

Guest stevie-b Posted November 21, 2009 Report Posted November 21, 2009 the sport is very much in decline to much politics hatred and bitterness and nobody prepared to let go a little and try to get everybody singing of the same hymn sheet.as for the so called money men pound notes dont mean prizes you have to no how to make pigeons win i have won serious prizes with pigeons that cost very little to compete against the best fanciers in scotland now you have to fly in 2 nationals that seems to be the way its gonna stay
Guest youngzimmy Posted November 21, 2009 Report Posted November 21, 2009 CORRECT POUNDS DONT ALWAYS MAKE PRIZES YES BE GOOD TO GET EVERYONE BACK IN THE ONE NATIONAL A WEE BIT OF COME AND GO WOULD NOT GO WRONG WOULD PROBABLY GO A LONG WAY TO BRINGING THINGS TOGETHER AGAIN WE CAN ONLY HOPE

The biggest problem in pigeons is MONEY and A CONFLICT IN PERSONALITIES which is splitting clubs and Feds apart. Why people cant accept that we all have an opinion and be a bit more democratic towards each other is pitiful. Each and everyone of us KNOWS the hobby is in decline, yet some are so blind they cannot see. GREED and SELF INDULGENCE are the things that need to be eliminated from this HOBBY. We all pride ourselves on raising money to help those outside the HOBBY, how about spreading a little more of that hospitality to your fellow fanciers within the hobby.
Guest peter4pm Posted November 21, 2009 Report Posted November 21, 2009 There's alot of factors why the sport and fancy side is dwindling .,...as far as abuse and underhand tatics go ..that will never stop as there to many bad apples around ...jealous bad apples i may add , Promotion for the sport of pigeon racing and the hobby of fancy pigeons and the showing scene needs to be stepped up ..i know theres some measures that have been put in place but a more direct approach is needed. We all talk about no youngsters coming into the pigeon hobby , due to various reasons ...playstations , pcs , ect ect the list is endless..i know ive tryed to get my 17 year old son envolved but theres just no interest there at all. Then you have the price of pigeon products , lofts and the accesories not to mention feeding , the list goes on. Your average teenager couldnt begin to afford such things. Also , in this day an age alot of people look apon pigeons as some sort of vermin ...so they very rarely get any good press. There needs to be some sort of campaign put in place that every uk pigeon fancier can be envolved in....promoting the hobby in their own areas. Maybe a good promotional video or something that can be used via the internet ...anythings worth a try at this late stage.
Fair Play Posted November 21, 2009 Report Posted November 21, 2009 I think Ian McKay has the right idea by getting the schools involved it's all about getting kids involved at an early age and hoping their experiences stick in the young minds and by getting a picture of the bird including updates I can just see them all round the notice board wanting to see how their bird is doing
