right lads,  as i have said  the old time for the 1 mile race  was 3.59.4sec in 1954   the new breed of guys can do it in  3.43.12    a difference of nearly   16 sec    per mile  now can any one count  how many seconds the pigeons can gain in perfect health and  fed the best corn

plenty training,  and bred from fast middle distance birds  and used in a middle distance race

and  to set the  pace for others  all though its race is finished at say 430 mile  any takers   ;D ;D ;D ;D on  this   if i was on the border thats the type i would use  braspenings type would do  ;) ;D ;D bigda as it is

yep correct now  there is also some thing in the fast time for the marathon  man  his best time for the mile is  4 minutes

.44 a difference of now minute 1 sec  slower that the winner over the  extra miles to fly and the overall journey and to add to this the fastes a woman can do its 5 minutes 9 sec over the longer trip  wonder it the cock can beat the hen or the other way about :o ;D

Will be a sad miss for the SNFC,

Top PRO, gave all the Scottish Fanciers and their pigeons the recognition that they deserved throughout his spell with the club.

one for the head this,  if the middle distance bird can fly 5 seconds faster than the Marathon bird, and the distance was  say  to the first  loft 430 mile  and the  second loft was on the same  line of flight as the   first,  but at a distance of  630 miles  how far back will the distance bird be by the time the middle distance bird arrived at its loft, would it be   20min behind 30 min behind or 35 minutes  behind,   and still had the 200 mile to go.  if pigeons could be  graded as like dogs or horses, you would know what allowance to make on the handicap. ;)

on my count,  the distance bird would have to get  51 min   taken  from its time   ;D ;D

there are 200 mile for the birds to go 5sec of the pace  x  630 miles - 3,150sec  divided by 60= 52.minutes  :)

Yer bang on wae that, wot i thought was that you were going to want more by flingin in fatigue un that. The only prob i have wae that is the 430 mile bird might still have flown the 200 extra 5 secs faster than the 630 bird if your no taken fatigue in. If your 5secs slower then your 5secs slower.

but the problem is if a middle distance doo times in thats where they work the velocity from , yes if yer doo is  5 sec faster but flying shorter you will win the national more times than not,  5 sec over a mile aint much but it has all ready had the  race gain of a hour from  the longest flyer   fatigue would set in  yes  only to the  bird thats flying the furthest as the shorter flyer  would be in the shed wile the distance bird has still 5 1/2 hours to fly  :o :o

sure dose but when the nat was first founded most birds where equal in speed not now,  i dont think even if they have the same speed as one and other, the shortest flyer would still  have  16 min advantage,  on a 200 mile further bird because it has still to come in to the loft and be timed as the other is all ready timed and the clock starts as the winner is timed in. ;)

Very honest of you Gareth to think you dont fit all the criteria to do the SNFC P.R.0 job. This post is a very important and prestigious position to hold within the SNFC and CAN ONLY BE FILLED BY SOMEONE THAT HAS THE RIGHT CREDENTIALS Joe Murphy did a brilliant job covering SNFC news over the years and will be very hard to replace. I hope the SNFC do their homework and get the right person for the job :o ps I think John Houstan could do the job but he is President and may have enough on his plate :-/ I dont think anyone else on the committee fits the bill.

At the end o the day bigda, if you live in the south yer no gan tae want marathon birds and most of us arent gan to move north to try marathon racing out. Horses for courses and o that. Respect to the boys who like the extra long stuff but havin never known anything else but 550 or so be the furthest then will have to stick to the middle distance Cheers for the blether
