sapper756 Posted November 5, 2013 Report Posted November 5, 2013 Why do I wearhttp://cdncache1-a.akamaihd.net/items/it/img/arrow-10x10.png a poppy? I'll tell you if I may,Because I believe remembrance is...not only for one dayI wear it for the fallen, and for these falling stillFor those who came back broken in body and will. For the parents, spouses, siblings where bereavement takes it toll...whose pain will never leave them, it eats their heart and soul.... ... ... For the wino on the corner, of his old life... nothing's left. Now he wishes when in battle he had died a hero's death. For the lad who loved a kick-about in the park with all his mates. But now his legs are held together with pins and metal platesFor the selfless men and women who's final journey homeIs in a union flag-draped coffin on comrades' shoulders bourneFor all those marching proudly In Remembrance Day parades. My poppy's worn in gratitude for the sacrifice they made....Thank You

Guest Owen Posted November 5, 2013 Report Posted November 5, 2013 Thank you for the poem it said it all.I was a Soldier once many year ago, I saw the lads get injured and leave in bags. Now I am old I wonder what it was for. I didn't serve for Bankers to steal from us or Governments to grab all they can.I didn't serve for the greedy to take all they can and leave people cold and shivering.I didn't serve to find that the Doctors couldn't care and profit is made from sicknessI didn't serve to see the young abandoned to lives of no hope and foreigners get the jobsI didn't serve to see our children sent to fight bravely in foreign wars were their lives were wastedI didn't serve to see tuition fees cripple the young ambitious kids to huge debtI didn't serve to see guns and drugs on the street destroy the peace and security of good peopleI served for democracy to be for allI served for fairness and justiceI served for our young to be valued and taught good manners and respect I served to see our Country help and guide others who want to succeedI served to see my Country provide houses and health care and set a good example to others who want to see.I served to see the young soldiers respected and valued with the best equipment and loving care after they have done their dutyI will wear my poppy for the young people that have tried so hard but were let down by the greedy and the fools

Guest TAMMY_1 Posted November 5, 2013 Report Posted November 5, 2013 never forget the brave who died for us
Walter swanston Posted November 5, 2013 Report Posted November 5, 2013 I also served as a soldier when I was a young man, over 60 years ago now and my memories of my comrades are as vivid as if it was yesterday.I knew people who did not return from the Middle East and I therefore support the whole commemoration scene. However I have got to say that my comrades fell in what is now one of Britain's forgotten wars and I would be unfaithful to their memory if I did not offer my wholehearted agreement to the post made by Owen.
JohnQuinn Posted November 5, 2013 Report Posted November 5, 2013 I wear one out of Respect for those who do a job that I myself could not do, and in sympathy for those left behind when their loved one's pay the ultimate price. The Scots Guards are right outside my Coatbridge office these last 2 days on a recruitment drive and tbh they don't appear to be attracting many to the trailer. Suppose the harsh reality that if you sign up just now you are liable to be in action before ye know it will be an obstacle too great for some young men and women to overcome and I can't critisise them for it. Ps. Your post is excellent Sapper.
Walter swanston Posted November 5, 2013 Report Posted November 5, 2013 Quote from Rudyard Kipling: It's Tommy this and Tommy that and throw him out the brute.,But it's "'Eroe of his country " when the guns begin to shoot. Did anyone see the report of discharged veterans living on the street in the Sunday papers.Disgraceful!!
St Finnan Loft Posted November 5, 2013 Report Posted November 5, 2013 Whilst on a visit to The military heritage museum in Canberra Australia my wife and I were greatly impressed by the respect shown by groups of schoolchildren. My wife and I were informed that all schoolchildren at some point would visit and respect as we observed was the norm. By coincidence a week later whilst in Adelaide a friend took me to his private museum which was an eye opener to say the least. He was an avid collector of war memorabilia and very informative on the subject. As a pigeon fancier he also did a great job of informing Australians of pigeons during the war.The following year we booked a trip to visit various battlefields in France one of which was Ypres Saliend Belgium the imprint in my mind of the Menin Gate shall remain with us along with the stories relayed by couriers etc. These memories are recalled when we see a poppy.
sapper756 Posted November 6, 2013 Author Report Posted November 6, 2013 Post a Poppy to show your support for out heroes, those that have fallen and those that still serve.
sharkfin Posted November 6, 2013 Report Posted November 6, 2013 He's not welcome here anymore Daftland We live in a country called Daftland The Briten we knew is no more Where sensible people do ludicrous things Or risk breaking some Daftland law. In Daftland we've police dogs with muzzles Less the villain has cause to complain And to steal from a shop and say 'sorry' Means you're free with no stain to your name. You had better leave lights on in buildings When you lock up and go home at night 'cause the burglars might hurt themselves entering And there's no way you'll be in the right. When speaking be wary in Daftland As some terms that you've used all your life Now have connotations unintended And you'll end up in all sorts of strife. We elect politicians in Daftland To give us the laws of the land Yet eight laws in ten now come from abroad The whole thing has got out of hand. The borders are open in Daftland And of migrants there's no keeping track Just a few of the thousands illegally here Will ever be caught and sent back. The exception to this is the hero Who fought for this land in the war He's old and he's sick, he might cost us a bit So he's not welcome here anymore. When the history is written of Daftland Historians may just recall That the craziest people in Daftland are the public who put up with it

sapper756 Posted November 7, 2013 Author Report Posted November 7, 2013 Another; A small boy’s voice,Floats by on the air,Dad, what are those flowersNow that everyone wears. Sit you down my young man,Its time you should know,Of all those that fell,Where the poppies do grow. It’s for people long gone,Who we no longer see,They stood in harm’s way,To protect you n me. It’s worn to remember,Not just that they fell,Don’t let it happen again,Is the story it tells.
geordie1234 Posted November 7, 2013 Report Posted November 7, 2013 Always buy a poppy to remember the fallen although I was shocked to read only 10% of the donations go to good use. None the less God bless
