Delboy Posted October 8, 2013 Report Posted October 8, 2013 What should the feeding be if this is the case because I have tried several different types of mixes? high carbs, low or no protein.Put them on barley/depurative for a couple of days and watch them go
Delboy Posted October 8, 2013 Report Posted October 8, 2013 I agree del , but think this years ybs will prove to be my best , I hope . When racing with the brother a few years ago our ybs got some kind of virus just at the time they were kitting together so never flew much for weeks and never left the area we missed first race and won most of the rest but they were tossed a lot so it just makes me wonder if they have to range before tossing . I would say I would prefer them ranging/kiting before getting tossed. Something is usually hanging over them if they are fed right and not flying well around the loft.Darkness/early bred ybs don't range the same as naturals either in my experience, this is probably because of their sex drive kicking in quicker.
Guest stb- Posted October 8, 2013 Report Posted October 8, 2013 Bad doos range as well Colin.Im not saying your doos were bad, im saying ranging has nothing to do with the calibre of pigeons.mines can range all day when the percy visits :emoticon-0179-headbang:
JohnQuinn Posted October 8, 2013 Report Posted October 8, 2013 With my latebreds I leave well alone, no tossing or forced exercise at the loft in the year of birth. Over the years i have tried all sorts with my latebreds and have came to the conclusion that the best will do what is asked of them as yearlings, regardless of how they are managed as Yb's, the others will go down early on in the program. On average i would hazard a guess that only 1 or 2/10 will do well racing when they get into the 2yr old stage. That Might look a bit skinny on the success front, but if you breed 60 for racing as Yb's, you'll be Very Lucky to get 6 or more to go on and score as 2yr olds at the distance, so the averages favour the latebreds to come on and perform well from the coast or across the channel as 2yr olds, that's how i see it anyway. Also to reduce losses off the top of the loft i leave them in with the old birds, this is Proven (to me anyway) to work as the Ob's are reluctant to fly come the end of breeding/racing so hold the latebreds near the loft, reducing the chances of them being left behind somewhere when they take to the air in amongst ranging Yb's that mix with others whilst out.

walterboswell59 Posted October 8, 2013 Report Posted October 8, 2013 hears a question for you walter.whats the latest you would breed a latebreed .i bred 2 last year that hatched on the 28 of november they were bred for the stock loft blas off my best racing hen and my best breeding cock i let them rear them because the cocks a prisoner and could not be paired to her in the racing loft incase he got out as he has bred 11 birds to score in the nationals she went down again when the youngsters were 15 days old and i stored these two eggs till 3rd week in january till i had a pair of feeders down so they have 2013 rings on i put the hen back in the racing loft 23rd of december she still had her 2 end flights to moult and that worried me a wee bit but she was fine and was paired again 16th of march and went on to score in both inland nationals taking 400 pounds in newbury

walterboswell59 Posted October 9, 2013 Report Posted October 9, 2013 I,ll have a pair off them , if there going cheap pal ill see what i can do for you pal she already has two first west sections fed and two national tickets in four different races and she breeds winners to the problem is you dont get many yb off your national birds as you only want them to rear one or two youngsters and before you know it the birds gone and you have nothing or little off them thats why i breed late breds off my best and put a few in the stock loft and they always breed me something good m8 but the result of that is to many stock birds but if there breeding winners what do you do i am going to sell 4 stock cocks that have all bred firsts in next week or two when there finnish the moult i payed louella 500 pouns each for and two i bred my self as there brothers sisters sons and daughters are all breeding winners and like billy says im always short of hens but i said the same thing last year then could not do it lol its just so hard to part with proven breeders that you spend a life time trying to get but needs must pal

Delboy Posted October 9, 2013 Report Posted October 9, 2013 That's one of the best stock cocks in Scotland but nobody has heard of it? You ask any top nat fancier in the west and they'll usually know the good birds about them .You must contact Louella who are responsible for it Walter with dna proof of its offspring and they will give you what you want for it and its offspring. Its funny, I never even knew you flew the nationals til this year m8 and ye ve got a stock cock like that.

Delboy Posted October 9, 2013 Report Posted October 9, 2013 There ye go, paying £500 for an 8 yr old and hitting gold right away m8.Not many would try that but I would as I think old is gold
walterboswell59 Posted October 9, 2013 Report Posted October 9, 2013 just found 7 national tickets that i won in 2011 had not a bad year then to im afraid if there not in the first 12 or so in the section it does not mean a lot to me goes over my head a wee bit m8 as if your getting a prize for going if you know what i mean but every man to his own i know many would be happy with a 83 sect 407 th open just does not ring my bell maybe i just expect better or maybe its just auld age takes a wee bit more to get me excited i could never get my head round someone keeping 40 0r 50 birds timeing one in a national and being happy with there year what happend to the other 39 or 49 or am i just being to hard im out to win every race i go to wither its 60 miles or 600 we only send an odd yearling to the nationals the rest should be winning in club and fed imo
walterboswell59 Posted October 9, 2013 Report Posted October 9, 2013 There ye go, paying £500 for an 8 yr old and hitting gold right away m8.Not many would try that but I would as I think old is gold did not pay 500 for him he was a cheap one 300 dell lol but payed 1300 pounds for two direct sons of debarcelona and they were 11 year olds and have plenty winners off them but for some reason there sons and daughters are better breeders than the old cocks one of them is 17 and not missed an egg the other missed an odd one gave him to billy 99 a wee while ago and filled them no bother payed 8oo pounds for the direct daughter of smarged 2 when paired to his own daughter got five years breeding off her and her and the old cocks blood is in almost every bird in the loft the house of aarden bought a full brother of one my debarcelona sons for 35oo at blackpool for one a bit younger so i got a bargain i think and mines breed winners would not part with these birds as no one has this blood any more that are prepared to sell 98 percent of the birds in my loft is at least a granchild of a 6 or 7 hundred mile national winner so im looking forward to getting better but as you know it does not always work out that way m8
