Hi Tom.

Was talking to a club member who said the jagging with pmv is causing major problems. Not the vaccine but all pigeons being jagged at different times is spreading illness.

The first two weeks racing with youngbirds is fine but come the third/fourth week your birds lose form or become ill did the members who jagged there birds the week leading up to the first youngbird race spread (a form) of pmv into the race basket even to birds already jagged ??????

He said it never happened when all the members took there birds to the club and were all jagged at the same time. three weeks before the first race.

Are guys creating a super strain of pmv infection by jagging on a weekly basis as the birds leave the nest then are added to older youngsters who have not built up the correct immunity ???

just a thought!!!

Now we know what is causing havoc and losses every year in our young birds the quicker we get our young birds vacinated the better.

Wondered where you'd picked up this info from. Only thing I've ever heard on this is it has been around for a long time and causes human gastroenteritis, in mainly children.

It also causes the same symptoms in young animals calves and piglets it has been tested to great sucess in the U.S.A and third world countries. The vacine is given oraly to infants and will start in this country next year. The virus is also imune to acid in the gut so much for cider vinegar.

Frank, if my understanding of the current vaccines is correct then it is impossible to transmit any disease from an inactivated / dead vaccine, which are the only ones licensed for use in the uk.

Tom, keeping the ph level in the gut bias towards acid is only effective against some bacterial infections , not viral infections.
