Hello,

I came across an advert in DoneDeal for Whole Oats, untreated, for €15 for 50 KG. This is weriously cheap food in Euro terms, and probably what Batrley should be priced at if I could find any here in Ireland !

I know that it Oats are a constituent of many commercial mixes, but wondered whether it was worth buying for use in a winter resting type mix which I could make up myself ?

Has anyone experience of feeding Oats to their birds, comments and suggestions welcome.

Many Thanks,

YES used whole oats in the winter many times. It takes them a wee while to get used to it as the husk can irratate the crop better to indroduce it gradually to them ,some times ive used it 100% with no problems. I first saw it being used by Jock Allan in the winter many years ago.

have used rolled oats (for poultry) during Winter feeding for last 2 years .25kilo sack (was £8) just gone up to £9. great for bulking the feed out whilst the racers are sitting about doing nothing . also feed 1/2 and 1/2 to the white doos all year round ,helps to keep costs down. :animatedpigeons:
