Now that the final race of the 2012 old bird season has passed, there was some discussion among the fanciers at the clock station, many of them being elderly and experienced fanciers, and every one agreed that this season has been the worst any of them could remember.

What are you views?http://forum.pigeonbasics.org/public/style_emoticons/default/emoticon-0138-thinking.gif

Any opinions on why it has been such a poor season?

Thank Youhttp://forum.pigeonbasics.org/public/style_emoticons/default/animatedpigeons.gif

Worst season I,ve had, think the weather has a lot to do with it. I,ve had enuf of the doos for this season so not racing the ybs, gonna have a wee break from it and start rebuilding next year.

I thought this was one of my strongest teams in recent years but turned out the worst OB season by far - dropped 24/34, 1/3rd of those in one 185m Federation race! Changed so many things this year it's going to be hard to decide which of those were wrong?

Never got out the bit this year, just never had any drive in me all season and the losses and results reflected it. Mind you the way it turned out for HUNDREDS of fanciers i maybe saved ma sanity by easily accepting the futility of my situation, cos if i had put everything into them with the same results and losses i would have needed sent for

Got the next 14 days off work and will try pushing myself and my Yb's to see if they can get some credibility back.

Started racing the pigeons in 1972 have had some memorable years and my share of bad one's,thought to myself right mick lets time a good one this year to mark 40 years in the sport,Never Never had a season like this for losses simply horrendous East winds had a lot to do with losses all over the country as they stayed for weeks constant rain did not help conditioning of birds and also the vast increase in falcons all over europe is killing our much loved hobby will just have to hang in there got a wonderful healthy team of youngsters ,if i did not have the doos would not no how to pass my time.

I think you only have to compare club/federation birdage to previous years to see how testing this year has been. My own club/fed birdage had dropped around 40% after 6 races & carried on declining throughout the rest of the season.

probably the most challenging season i can remember between the poor weather conditions and the usual ever increasing raptor attacks and everything else that threw its tuppence worth in,we can only hope next year is more favourable for the birds but i have my doubts ??

Lost alot of birds ( mostly late breds )in early races but still a few tried older birds for next year.I sent to every national again this year which is hard to do when you expect to win a diploma in each.I havent missed a national race for many years and hope to stay the same in the future. RETURNS-Cheltenham 7/11 Maidstone 9/14 Alencon 2/3 Ypres 3/5 Niort 2/3 Clermont 2/4 TOTAL 25/40 , NOT GREAT IN A POOR YEAR RETURN WISE mind ye, most of these lost had done fek all before.
