geordie1234 Posted June 20, 2011 Author Report Posted June 20, 2011 Well this is it JAM im no keeping them another year without them being anywhere
seaforth Posted June 21, 2011 Report Posted June 21, 2011 i raced late breds from last year they were never in the basket until this year. i have had a great season with them took many tickets. 1 of them 3rd fed 15th sec 124th snfc marlbourgh. i just trained them hard. also got 1 the next day from eastbourne so i dont see a problem its all trial and error :scotland:
Guest IB Posted June 21, 2011 Report Posted June 21, 2011 I think a race of that distance would be great experience for them. I've not had any success at all with latebreds, none of which were trained as YBs, and 2011 has been the same. I started with:- 5 x yearling latebreds, dropped 1 training & 1 racing, and stopped the other 3 after flying Witton Castle (110 miles). I've never stopped them before, but they'd done exactly the same as the other flown yearlings did as YBs, so trying something new. 4 x 2-yo latebreds, 3 trained only as yearlings, and 1 raced to 82 miles. They have been trained & raced this year, and I had dropped 3 by Eastbourne, 2 entered, 1 dropped, and 1 timed second morning at 6.21 - she's the bird raced to 82 miles as a yearling. Hope this helps.

geordie1234 Posted June 21, 2011 Author Report Posted June 21, 2011 You still looking to send them as trainers during the young bird racing??AYE M8
Rooster J. Cogburn Posted June 21, 2011 Report Posted June 21, 2011 AYE M8 Good stuff If the weathers not that great for yer toss and the 80 miler,no point throwing them away after this long, play it by ear.If they get a few tosses in before the young bird racing and in wi them to the races as trainers that'd be cracking experience for them
Guest IB Posted June 21, 2011 Report Posted June 21, 2011 IMO the yearling latebred moult won't allow much training during YB racing .. remember that they will throw a new flight and a nest flight at the same time, leaving 2 gaps in each wing. Check too that your Fed allows Old cock trainers in the young cock race basket - ours doesn't because they might bully the YBs in the basket - Old hens only, and even then only for 1st x 3 YB races..
