birdbrain Posted August 8, 2005 Report Posted August 8, 2005 i need help with keeping pigeons. can any one help me with things like how many times in a day do i fly birds and what type of seed do i feed them??????????????
Guest Posted August 8, 2005 Report Posted August 8, 2005 Where do you fly, what type of loft do you have, how many av you got?? I have been racing for 5 years now and still learn something new every day, read read and read everything you can, get books, videos, magazines and search the web, theres so much info. to learn, you will have so much info in your head b4 u know it that you wont know what to do with it, but its the best hobby/sport you can ever possibly do. Cant give you a definate answer to how much and what to feed as it depends on there age, whether there racing, moulting breeding etc. if there young birds and are feeding themselves go on a basic rule, that as soon as 3 or 4 have had a drink when eating take the food away and repeat this twice daily after they have come in after a flight. Good Luck and have fun with them!!
birdbrain Posted August 9, 2005 Author Report Posted August 9, 2005 thanks for the info.. i am starting by surfing the net there is so much stuff that can help me as i have found. thanks again
Guest Doostalker Posted August 9, 2005 Report Posted August 9, 2005 Birdbrain, you can sometimes get books and videos etc cheaper on e bay. Just search for racing pigeons in the e bay site. Like Shelbin says read everything, and talk to other fanciiers too. Take bits from everyone and work out a system that suits yourself. You never stop learning.

Guest Posted August 11, 2005 Report Posted August 11, 2005 best way to fly pigeons is by trial and error as one system may suit me but not you, start with the basics , food water minerals etc and work from there
Guest Posted August 20, 2005 Report Posted August 20, 2005 If you're looking for an interesting book on pigeons, you'll find Colin Osmond's The Racing Pigeon really helpful and easy to read. In paperback, it costs under £7, but check out your local library before parting with any dosh. You'll probably find Wim Peters 'Fit to Win' there too -- but it's a bit heavy going -- and others.
Rentenier Posted October 16, 2005 Report Posted October 16, 2005 Carter, how many beans at a time. and what type
