anyone can give me some advice? I want my pigeon to fly out of my loft but I am scared to fly them because I am doubting that they would probably never came back to me. They are all old birds when I purchased them and I'm sure they will going back to the owner whom I bought it. My old birds are 6mos. old in my loft and my loft size is 8ft wide x 5ft deep x 6ft height and it had only 7 good quality pigeons. I never let them out of their loft because they are too expensive. Is that enough time to fly them? Help me please...

i was in the same place as you about 5 months ago but and i still am i have mainly oldbirds that i dont let out  but a couple of young birds that i let out. with the oldbirds you should breed off them first before even letting them out then at least then you will have there young ones if they dont come back because that is what i am doing ontill i get a good young team of pigeons.

all the best

I am also a begginer, but I agree with Don, I allowed the old birds that I bought to have young, then I got the young flying out, before I tried the adults, I did loose one adult, but form the advice that I have recieved on this forum, I believe that that is the risk you take.

let us know how you get on, Ps I like your pic, you look like a happy pair!!

Hi "kababayan". I would suggest raising young from them and these youngsters are the ones you should fly. Might take longer but less risky and traumatic  8)

The advice given about the aviary is a good idea also. Not much for the purpose of getting them acquainted with the surroundings, but to have their much needed sunlight. Sunlight is needed for better calcium absorption.

While waiting for your youngsters, devote your time to preparing the breeders for their breeding chores. This will help in producing healthy young.

BTW, where are you located in the Phils? What lines do you keep?

Regards and Enjoy

My dear kababayan! Thanks to your advice and to all the members of this forum. I really like this and it brings more happiness to me coz i gain knowledge while reading of how to handle and take good care of pigeon. BTW, I'm from Sariaya, Quezon and I'm sure you know this province. I had 7 fancy pigeons. 3 English Carriers, 2 Pigeon Owls and 2 Racing Homers. I want them to fly and not for race. I want to go race but I don't have a racer. I don't know the exact appearance and quality of that pigeon. Pls. kindly leave me some offline message at engsworld@yahoo.com. I often get online and hoping to get more tips regarding pigeon caring. TY

You are welcome. Your place is in the race line of our South Race, Tacloban to Manila. So by Feburary you might be able to see racers passing by your vicinity  ;D

I will get in touch with you via PM on this forum.
