I've misplaced my original references, but I recall that the body has something like 0.0001% silver already present. Therefore 'adding' anything extra would at best upset a delicate balance, or at worst, poison you. One or two 'nutters' (my considered opinion) in the BHW forever telling fanciers to use it on themselves and their birds.
