I find that after 60 years a fancier, I still know little or understand racing pigeons. with continuing health and mobility problems that got worse from Christmas last year I was dreading pairing up time. In the 2nd week of Feb this year I just opened the stock birds boxes and let the hens through with the exception of a few new birds that were brought in to try.

The race birds were treated the same and when I saw a pair in the box I shut the door. The race birds were closed for 3 days then the boxes all opened. The birds were split after rearing their young and they were flown out and returned to their own loft sections. (Not Roundabout) The week before the Grand National Horse Race I decided to try a toss. I took them this side of the Forth bridges and released 51 about 1pm. I got 4 after about an hour, and the rest straggled in all day with my last arriving next morning. (Obviously a hawk strike)

I wasn`t sure if I would go to the first race or not but my pal said he would take me to the club. I will have to try and give the y/b`s a few tosses before the racing starts on the 21st July. My old birds only went in the basket 9 more times and that was for the races. Here`s how they done.
