REDCHEQHEN
From 21st April 2021 - transporting live animals between EU countries will be subject to 3 weeks quarantine (this includes racing pigeons) This is of course unworkable - this will affect Belgian and Dutch racing (as well as all other countries) I don't know why the changes are taking place , if you look at the following PDF in English and search for 'pigeons' the page above it gives the effective date approx page 84/172https://eur-lex.europa.eu/eli/reg/2016/429/oj

THE FIFER
we are not a member of the EU now, think there will be lots of changes, think negotiations are still at an early stage yet so could be changes hopefully,
Henrik
Is this not to do will welfare issues arising from the transport of live animals for slaughter abroad? glencameron
REDCHECKHEN is a source of good information but I thought what a strange mail last night and initially dismissed it but … (and of course as stated we are not in the EU. Its obviously your opinion if that's good or bad but or me the work being done immediately by the Dutch and Belgian authorities will not auto translate to UK once they achieve their aims , which I believe they will) Extract from DE Duif New EU regulations on the health conditions for movements of animals within the EU will come into force on 21 April 2021. This would mean that pigeons would first have to be quarantined for three weeks before a flight from another EU country, after which a check by an NVWA veterinarian would take place no later than 48 hours before the basketing. The NVWA veterinarian issues a health certificate that the transporter of the pigeons must carry with him during transport. The NPO, the Dutch pigeon federation, considers this not feasible and has set up a working group that has been in discussions with the Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality (LNV). Since the regulations apply to all countries, the NPO has also contacted the FCI and the national associations of surrounding countries. The Dutch working group has now had an initial meeting with the Ministry of LNV, where it has been agreed that there will be clarity before the start of the racing season in 2021. The working group shall keep the national associations of our neighbouring countries and the FCI informed. The KBDB has also been shot into action. President Pascal Bodengien tells us that we are in contact with the President of the NPO to see how this problem can be responded to together. The competent authorities will also be contacted. Furthermore, the KBDB states that according to some veterinarians the new regulations would be impossible. The KBDB will communicate about this later. greenlands
Off facebook.Posted @ 13:30 hrs From rpra There is information circulating on social media regarding EU regulation 2016/429. This regulation that is relevant to the transport of animals has been in force since 2016. However, the concerns raised in the posts relate to supplementary requirements EU regulation 2020/688 that comes into force in 2021 - In particular the interpretation that the relevant article requiring animals to be 'quarantined' for 21 days after attending sporting events in other EU countries. In the case of pigeon racing this would mean quarantined within the loft. This is obviously unworkable and would be detrimental to pigeon racing all over Europe. The RPRA has already approached DEFRA and the APHA to seek clarification. In addition other European racing organisation have contacted their Government departments. This issue has also been raised with the FCI. The EU has a long history of recognising pigeon racing as a historic and cultural activity that requires a different approach to transportation, disease control and animal transport in general. We are positive that any issue that may result from the new regulation will be clarified as soon as possible and discussions opened; in order to reach a position that facilitates our requirements as a cultural activity.
