You’ve only got to read the BHW to know that everything’s rosy within the sport. Well that what they’d like us to believe anyway.

I know that when you enter pigeons in any SNFC race, you sign that you agree to them being drug tested. And the test also includes testing for the presence of masking drugs.

Can't remember when, but I think there was a published 'report' saying pigeons had been tested and found clear? Also know of one fancier who asked for his returning birds to be tested - and results were clear too.

Personally I think it reflects badly on the Sport's image when such a procedure is thought necessary.

Should be a random testing of all fed's so many a year and every winner of a certain amount of funds should also be tested.Thats just my opinion and no i dont know or even suspect anyone of using drug's but if its done as a mandotory testing then there could be no fingers pointed.

yes i think this is true re snfc, and with  many other organizations, also,,, sadly this seems to be a sign of the times ,as  in many sports . but regarding pigeon racing , and as ib says , this certainly puts a bad reflection on the pigeon sports image ,,,,,,,,,and as usual its the very small minority, that would even think of this

when drugs are so readily available and people wish to cheat to achieve there goals , then birds should be tested , and those that dont use drugs to enhance there performances would welcome this better to remove all doubt from those that point the finger , than to put up with rumours of the few that cant win against the top flyiers , perhaps if these fanciers spent as much time looking after there birds they would get to the top as well.

Wholeheartedly agree with OldYellow, some people just expect to win without puting in all the hard work that winners obviously put into their birds.

it takes very hard work,a lot of thought, , many dissapointments,  to make pigeons win,and more imporantly,,,win regular,  but this is the only way,, anyone not not putting hard work and thought  in to it ,, will get nothing out of it.

anyone winning races, by not doing this,   would soon be found out [experienced fanciers could tell a mile away], and as someone remarked b4 in this thread,,,,drugs are for mugs ,,,,,,,,,so very true ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,but what one has to beware of ,is jealousy , fanciers who are putting, time and effort into their pigeons , and winning with them,, should never be accused , [usually by fanciers who prop up the bar] unless proven,, beyond all doubt ,which would be very easy to do

In almost every other sport random tests are carried out, this does not reflect badly at all on the sport, what reflects badly is if only one is caught the whole sport is tarnished by the media with the tip of the iceberg syndrome.
We were randomly tested also all gold and silver medalists were tested and no stigma attached, you were tapped on the shoulder and asked to accompany and official to give a urine test, sealed and signed buy you and the official or if under 16 your parent or coach had to sign
Drug use is with us whether we like or not, but without any testing it will definitely be used in some form or other, there are scientists out there trying to develop drugs to beat the tests in place in some major sports

The thing with testing them is the lack of clarity involved.

I will stand corrected if im wrong but how many members are actually aware of what is considered an illegal drug for the birds i mean some are obvious but some are not and with all the products that come from the continent how the hell do we know they are all considered legal to use - I dont,i think they are but i cant be certain on it.

I know to issue a list of all banned substances gives incentive to the minority to obtain and use such substances but how otherwise can we be sure we are not all 'Drugging our birds' most days of the week.

A friend of mine was tested by the NRCC a couple of years back, all tests came back negative however not one to be quiet at the best of times he managed to find out some of the products on the list and was shocked by there use in our every day life and 'yes' there was one product on there according to him that i had tried once in the past  but with not knowing what could i have done.

But that is the same with humans and other animals, you get a list of prescribed and off the shelf drugs that contain traces of banned substances and you must avoid them, no excuse allowed even if you can prove your doctor prescribed one for a genuine reason you are still responsible for what is in anything you take

Phil thats all well and good but how do you define performance enhancing every single product in my store shed is meant to enhance them and make them fly like rockets up there backside - plus how would an ordinary fancier such as us know how to be sure of the contents of such products.
