How many fanciers believe in strain names? i think its time not too worry about names and be abit more like belgiums/dutch. dont care about strain names .looking at some of the big auction sites big names buying total unrelated birds to what they own then selling them in there own names.

very true any bird that steps foot in the owners loft is deemed to be his own strain , forget names and think good pigeons to good pigeons , after all every loft even the champions have birds that arent worthy of keeping

As My aim is to fly France the only strain I am interested in is the French strain. You put the french cock (flown) to the french hen (flown) and hopefully produce the french offspring.

most important theres sticklebault in the Jan Arden

thats right the sticklebault seem to be a big influence in many a good family

not many distance birds dont have the sticklebault blood in them

yes they do.didnt really take any notice until you look back

thats why im chasing the old blood , have settled for Van Braunes and Van Hees for now im going to blend them in to one family altho they probably share some ancestrial blood somewhere

when you look close at pedigrees several names are on them also other breeds, put winner to winner and you will form your own family,i have blended my birds from 3 strains over the last 10 years.

Kind of agree with this too only look for Barcelona or Palamos. (These are harder to find than winners.)

                 i agree with you there, very difficult, the late Great Stan Biss always stated he thought Palamos to be the hardest race point to pigeons, you only have too see how many are home each year from the race to judge, 20 per cent if your lucky on average.

i agree names of, strains mean nowt ,,, but breeding does , and theres a great big difference  

strain names are usually agood guide as to what that particular strain has excelled at , so yes i think they are quite important  to novices who might want to fly there birds up to 200 miles and no more .   so he wont go out spending loads of money on for example  van de wegens

What i mean is that if someone breeds winner to winner and so on he gets a name for himself with his birds when someone knocks on the door to buy some they dont then say i bought a youngun of a winner from niort they say i bought such and such's birds and then the name starts.

I think Ray Barrington from Wellington somerset would be the guy to speak to, he flies them very successfully.

I think sometimes we get too hung up on what a bird is SUPPOSED to do look at what Borkeman did with Marsallis birds I look for a true all around bird I had a great bird this year it won a 200 and 2 x 500 and was equal 1st on 2 other races he also got 6th on the 600 I fly my birds HARD this weeds out the junk in a hurry most of my young birds have been on every race this year 100, 150, 200, 300, 100 so far I will also ship all of these yearlings on the 600 next year I dont own a OB that hasnt been 600 except for 1 she has 3 club speed records but it is a very good probability she wouldnt make it home from 350 she did horrible at 250 and was 2nd day at 300 I havent had the guts to send her any farther than 300 we are breeding her for sprints in Florida

Yes I want some paddymacs anyone who can get 'em across that sea into Ireland must have some good birds.

I had one from Palamos, but the Scottish and Irish birds must be as good as any anywhere.

Yes have to say that sounds right but mine are just mine. Based on 1 Krauth 1 Spangle 1 Buscheart 1 Kirkpatrick. Never managed to keep more than 1 of anything.
