let the birds settle for a few weeks in the cot getting used to it, then let them out when they are a little hungry.
throw some little seed stuff in front of the cot.
let them pick around and get used to the cot, after a good length of time let them back into the cot..repeat this several times untill they feel comfortable coming in and out.

any chance you could get some aviary sections (borrow). birds can come in/out, have good look round..then 1 day take roof section off. once birds are confident take aviary away. i let out some ybs last week that i was given in june..no probs.

i wouldn't leave it as long as i did, i hasen to add. once they've sat in aviary about a week..have a go before they get to strong. i allways like a dull/wet but calmish day.
