My husband keeps racing pigeons, he was brought up with them and we have had a loft in our own garden since his Dad passed away 10 years ago.
Anyway my input is helping where and when I can.  My main job is taking the pigeons training, I have a trailer that I tow, the usual contents are our own pigeons and other flyers from our town and one or two others from surrounding towns.  Making the coffee and dealing with strays that we get phone calls and emails about. I have spoken to more pigeon men in the last few weeks than I have over the past 2 years, the number of youngsters being reported seems to have increased this year.  Now I know this site is here I can try here as well.  Though most of them are SHU and easy to find, thanks to the wee book of ring numbers produced each year.

My hobby is showing dogs, so spend a lot of hours driving the length and bredth of the UK,  I take the odd pigeon with me if I can liberate it in or near it's home town.  I'm not always at the loft on a race days but I do keep in touch to hear how things are going.

Enjoying reading the posts on the forum.

Thanks for the welcome.

Alf I usually train along the A71 starting in Kilmarnock heading out to the Shawlands hotel at Larkhall, do a few runs to Carnwath as well.  I meet quite a few different guys out with there pigeons and it's a bit like walking a dog, folk will stop and talk, but walk down the park or stand and stare at the sky on your own and folk give you funny looks.

Abbey the next time you are going to Carnwath make sure you drop into the the bakery at Kilncadzow ( it's the 1st shop/house/bakery on the left )just a mile or 2 the other side of Carluke the cakes and pies are brilliant but make sure you fill your purse 1st as it is a wee bit expensive but the stuff is 1st rate

Might stop a the bakers before going to Carnwath then me and my friend can have something while the birds settle.

Hi rembrant, he goes South with the pigeons, though the young birds have been as far south training as they have racing so far.
