Agree with you Rose, Alias's are fine but members should have to register using there correct details and be aproved before being able to post. If try i.d can't be confirmed they should not be permitted to post. There are enough mods in various areas and enough genune members to be able to confirm most fanciers.
General public reporting strays maybe should have an open forum/thread where they can post as they are helping us all.

From what I've seen - not just on this forum, but it's fairly common -  some people get into what starts off as fairly civil debates, then it gets more heated.  It then turns into wanting to to have the last word and justify positions.  Either really defensive or attacking.  You see it sometimes.  Some people just won't let it go, because it looks like that person has backed down.  Sort of macho mentality.  You get the wind up merchants too.  Trying to spark off an argument.  Trolls - I thinks that's the technical name

Nobody likes a nanny state, and it's a really tough call for moderators to lock threads or ban members.  I think the idea of a three stage warning is an interesting one, but who's to judge when a warning kicks in?  Especially as some people take particular posts as banter, but others reading it think it's abusive?  Isn't it more effective for all forum members, whether old hands or newbies, to monitor themselves? Problem is, it takes two or more to make an argument, so wouldn't it be better to cut posts like that off at their legs by not replying to them in the first place?

I once responded to a post as I read it the wrong way, and I felt I was out of order.  However, once you've posted, you've posted.  In the long term, I think forums moderate themselves, and that's down to the membership being sensible.  However, I believe swearing and being personally abusive on an open forum is bad form, and if there's a rule against that and someone breaks it (perhaps after a warning), they should be excluded.  Problem is, who's to stop people joining again under an alias?  Probably nothing, other than a fact that these sort of people will always revert to type, and won't ever really establish themselves as proper members.  Any way, that's my opinion for what it's worth.

myself and chris m had big dissagreement the night on here ,and it went on for a few hours six in total but we kept it civialised there was no bad language and we expressed our differences in a proper manner
i see it has the right way to address aproblem in an adult manner

Not against anyone using aliases but i think if it was possible that anyone joining should be made to register in their proper name obviously wouldnt be available for members to see but would be their for webmaster to know   Might not work but was just idea

I think anyone gettting insulting in there posts should get an initial warning which can be removed after a 4 week period should this member continue to insult they should be banned for a term period selected by the admin.

By Ban i mean membership disabled and IP address blocked - Every message posted on this forum shows the IP address to the webmaster so he can verify whether they use more than one IP address i am honest enough to say i post off several IP addresses due to coming on at home and work.

As for what is insulting it is down to the Mods to moderate as they do and the final decision to rest with Richard after all its his site.

As for aliases etc - I know for absolute certain there is one account at least maybe two that is set up that several members use to insult others without having to use there own name - i think the word there i am looking for is cowards

half the problem is with topics if someone puts a post oup that others disagree with they start sounding off, its all a matter or opinion

one of the biggest problems is that there are guys on this site, who turn up on a thread and do nothing but make daft, purile comments that have nothing to do with the thread, thats not "banter" thats someone trying to stir things up to get their own back

On the internet you are who you say you are. There is very little you can do to verify identity.

Rather than making it a requirement to give details (we'll get lots of Mickey Mouses); I think it should be a reward and incentive to input your real details. Whilst a little way off, a solution to bring this type of system is in the pipeline for Pigeonbasics.

In the meantime, report bad stuff, and we'll try and get it off ASAP.
